Rock Bass in P.I. Bay
« on: Feb 19, 2007, 07:19 AM »
In May and June there all over the bay.I've never caught one or saw anyone else take one through the ice in the bay.Do they migrate to the lake in the winter? Would like to know  where they go,they would be a great bonus pan fish to catch.I've caught several 10 to 12 inchers when fishing for small mouths and kept  a few twice, and they did make a tasty fish fry.

They seem to get extremely sluggish when the water starts getting cold. Only thing I can think of is maybe they did indeed move out to deeper water in search of water a few degrees warmer or they are holding within structure living off freshwater shrimp and other underwater insects.

I've been fishing the peninsula for about thirty years, and I've never caught a rocky through the ice.
