gonna target them more this year. last year i found a honey hole lake that produced a 15.5 and a 17.5 crappie on first ice 15 mins apart. cant wait to hit it again. post a picture when i find it.
believe i caught it on a northland forage fry with a waxie if my memory serves me right. caught 12fow on a weedline.
-
really nice size fish. what else did you catch?
-
I believe just some smaller gills and a bass or two that day, nothing special besides the crappies
-
My personal best was almost 16". Looking to break that this year. Heck, maybe I can finally get my brother to stop throwing his two 17" and two 19" in my face :P
-
I target crappies all winter they are some of my favorite fish..We usually always pull anywhere from 12" to 16" out with the occasional 18" to 19" i had to start using a 10" auger because i got tired of them breaking off at the hole then learned the hard way my foot fit down the hole along with fishing poles and anything else i kicked down there on accident

We are lucky enough to have a lake nearby that consistently produces 16-18" fish. Last year a couple of guys took a ton of big fish out, hopefully no real damage was done...

mine was 19 1/2 from here in central pa. get alot of 15-18" but can only find them in the spring for some reason, not sure why i know they are in there but just very hard to locate through the ice!!!! any tips send em my way, this lake is only small under 150 acres deepest part ive found is 11' and have fished that area for ever with no good results through the ice. most of the ones we get lucky to catch through the ice come from 6' or so. i have been all over this lake looking, but would like some info from some real crappie hunters like yourselfs that have even caught some pig crappie!!!! thanks guys EYEFISHERMAN D.T.
-
I taget crappie often on the ice. In my area a 12" is a beast, you may see some in the 13-15 range but those are things of legend.
here is my first 12

Don't have any good crappie lakes in the area, so this is my best. First crappie of 2012 on a trip with some college buddies. Never measured it but between 13-14", followed by a pile of 12"s ;D
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/bozo16260/0105120928a.jpg)

didnt measure them but I have had several that had to curl up in the bottom of a 6 gallon bucket, they were longer than the bucket was wide. I have had 2 or 3 that were substaintially longer than the bucket is wide.

my biggest is 12", but i hooked one during summer that was much bigger. he got off right next to the boat. this year the water is really low, so i'm hoping the fish will be more concentrated.

Wow that's a lot of great looking crappies
-
im proud of my sixteen and it was a hoot to catch but i have a lot of work to do if im gona catch and 18 lol are you guys catching the big ones on private lakes if so how do you clean your fish out ive heard as soon as you put crappies in you need to take 150 out a year to keep them in check whats your thoughts
-
I caught my 18 3/4" on a sandpit lake in So. Sarpy County,Nebraska. We try and keep a lot of 8-10" fish for eating and release the 12-14" fish. I was told by a fisheries biologist that by keeping my big crappie I was not harming the population. In fact, a fish that size is somewhere around 7 yrs old and is at the end of its life anyways and not sure how viable of a reproducer it is at that age?
-
Those are some slabs! I got a couple good ones through the ice this year just shy of 13"

first real try for them and got a 15.5" not many crappie lakes here nevermind lots with good size. lost one becase it was a tight squeeze in the 8" hole as well, figured about the same length or a bit more but it was huge thickness and depth wise

one crapty part about being 6'6" with massive hands is i can never have fish look truly huge without it being a gargantuan fish
