Worms for lakers

Has anybody tried using real earthworms for lakers? Any luck? I have been told they work well for specks but I don't know about lakers. TIA

theTUGistheDRUG:
I have seen a guy catch one on a nightcrawler in spring, but smelt imitators are usually the way to go in my experience.  Assuming that is the main forage base of course.
