Heres 2 pics of 2inches of ice. There were some areas that were only 1 1/2 but every time i would go over to take pics the ice would start to sink.

Would'nt catch me on ice that thin, holy crap!! thats a death wish. 2 inches gesh...
The nameless men who nameless rivers travel,
And in strange valleys greet strange deaths alone;
The grim, intrepid ones who would unravel
The mysteries that shroud the Polar Zone.

around the 20th of november i think.  you'd hear rumbling ice on the other side of the lake coming toward you and the huge crack would go right under you.  {pucker factor}

First 2 1/2 inches im there.  Ive only fell through once in about 10 yrs of doing that.  Picks and boat cushion always come along...... Plus it has to be excellent crystal clear ice otherwise it aint gonna hold ya.

Heres a pic from last years first day out 12-2-06.This is good ice....

And I thought I was crazy being out on 2.5 inches last year.  the pic with the cracks is nuts.  I've heard of people using boards strapped to their feet or ski's on an inch of ice or so.  good fishing

if your only fishing in very shallow water whats the big deal. worst case scenario you go thru and your still standing up???? lets say 4 feet of water or less? sure u would be cold but i don't think it woulkd be life threatening. now going out in 10-15 ft of water on 2 inches i    wouldn't do that

2 1/2"-3" is about my limit. My first trip out last year I was on 3 1/3" and we got that ice in like two days.

Thats what I say, I'll go out and fish for Pike in big shallow flats as soon as there is 2 inches of hard ice. I wear wadders everytime and the deepest water I get over is maybe 5'. I've gone in waist deep a few times. The biggest thing is KNOW where you are fishing and stay in that chest deep or less water, the Pike are there and its pretty cool watching them swim around under your feet.

Remember... When they are scooping your lifeless body from the bottom of the lake that fishing on thin ice does not prove you are a man...just stupid.  Ever hear of natural selection?  It's still at work in the human race.   :wacko:

"Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after." - Henry David Thoreau

"If people don't occasionally walk away from you shaking their heads, you're doing something wrong."  John Giera
