Starting to wonder if I missed my chance or if it just hasn't really started yet.  Put some taps out 2 weeks ago.  Checked them a couple times, really nothing.  Left for Moosehead Fri-Mon, so when I got home last night I figured I'd have a bunch to collect.  Still really nothing.  A couple of the 5 gal buckets were maybe a third full but it was all frozen, so nothing to collect yet...

Still coming.  Short and sweet season before the bud out is my guess.

Tapped 42 trees a couple weeks ago in Central Maine and have 7 gallons of sap so far.
Slow this year as last year I had 5 gallons of syrup by now.

Tap away, it all makes syrup.

nice my plan is to buy some taps and i can get food grade buckets for free. next yearits a plan.ive got at least 50 decent size soft maples out back.just boil it in a pan using a turkey fryer.i realize it wont be grade a maple syrup but bet it tastes better than store bought.my bro in law helps his boss that runs a sugar shack at the farm he works at so i can get him to lend a hand.

It will taste great and you will have fun doing it.  Try and surround cooker with cement blocks to keep wind off cooker and pan.  Good luck

12 taps out since March 4.  “Collected” yesterday and put a whopping 3 gals in the tank.  Looks like it dripped a little today but surely not a solid run.  Maybe this week things will turn on...

You really just need a pain with more surface area, wood or propane setup is fine for small timer.  Check Bascom maple in the coming few weeks for used as people trade them in.

Season just getting going up here.

Sounds like a decent haul!  I've only tanked 7 gals of sap.  Might not even be worth starting a fire for me this season.  I may just boil it off on the deck with a propane burner...

I would think you should run well the next two days providing you didn't tap those oak tress again! ;D

I never tapped an oak tree.  Not having any on my property might be the only reason I didn't but...  ;D  Yeah, I'm hoping for a little run today but the next few days after that it doesn't look like it'll get cold enough.  Maybe a couple more freezing nights Sunday, Monday but after that the buds may be full leaves...

Maple is enough work at 40-1 let alone birch at 110-1! ;D

That's a great hunk of chaga there! Make some fire cider with that! And some tea too  ;)
