ION Blade Sharpening
« on: Aug 30, 2018, 08:48 AM »
It's almost that time to start thinking about the hard water. This year I'm looking to be more prepared than normal, and that means sharp blades on my ion. Does anyone know where I can get 3 sets of blades sharpened for my 8" Ion. Looking for someone south of Portland if possible. Thanks much.

Use the sponsor fish 307. Put the blades I. A usps box and ship. They do a great job on them.

That's silly. You can use the same angle on Ion, as an Eskimo standard, Mora, HT...

307 told me they cant, said Ion uses a different pitch and as a result they have tried but cant do them.

Truth is, you could use just about any pitch you want on that side. It matters as much to an ice auger at it does to a chisel or a knife blade. A few degrees won't be detectable and something like 10* probably wouldn't be material, we change factory pitch all the time to suit the customers application. If we see rolled edges or upsetting we go more obtuse, if we see excessive wear on the corners than we go more acute. I don't even measure the angle anymore.

Remember back in the day when companies didn't lie to the consumer & corporate profits weren't more important then honesty. Back of the package showed people how to sharpen them.....today they claim you can"t sharpen blades........I don't think we are that stupid.

I had them sharpened by a local guy who always did my Jiffy. Took it out and it just spun like crazy but wouldn't cut for crap.

Then he messed them up. Throw that set in the recycle pile and get a new set. You might find a guy that can fix it, but sounds like the bottom side was touched.

Another vote for the ION.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

I've never attempted to sharpen my blades . Always bought new . But would a Lanskey knife sharpener work ? Just match up the angle and file away .
