every year we talk about it this year lets get this thing going before it is too late. I do not have the means or time to organize this alone, but I am willing to do everything I can with what I have. I would like to try for early feb. we will have ice then for sure and it is far enough off that we can get things arranged and all set. Not only because it is close to me but because everyone will catch fish I think chatauqua is a good spot...also large enough to accomodate a good number of people. I am opening this thread with the hopes that we can discuss the logistics well in advance. I would like to have a derby of sorts and I am looking into what we have to do to make it happen please feel free to float any ideas thanks

I agree there is room for alot of people there and the fishing aint too bad either ;) bait and other amenities (stores and bars not too far off)

I am in Tonawanda. I usually fish alone, so I would be up for a group thing any time. Chatauqua seems like it is a nice central location for the wny people.

first thing you need to do is contact the town and make sure you can put on on big event. unless you wanted to keep it small then it would not matter. this sounds like a great idea. Pm me if theres anything I can do.

it appears there is interest so lets look for a decent date I am wide open on weekends I suggest beg/mid Feb almost guarantee no issues...aside from the snow that can fall and there will be ice. I can bring 1 maybe 2 grills for cooking both smallish . A couple buddies got sleds/quads to help out people who need help. Long Point is a great access depending on ice it is easy to launch anything there. Also it is a state park I can see no problems with holding something like this there I will look into it though in case I need to talk to them about some other things anyways. Lets get some ideas together and get this thing going.

I wouldn't think you need permission from the town for a bunch of guys meeting on the ice. Unless of course your'e having live music or serving beer or something of that sort. If that was the case everyone would need permission to go there. I could bring a small charcoal grill (a weber smokey joe jr.) and my heater is a cooker also big enough for a frying pan. I also have 2 huts a one man for myself and a Shappell 3000 I could bring for someone who may not have one or maybe not enough room for thier kids if they would like to bring them as well as extra equipment to outfit some kids for the day. The only rule I have is you break it you bought it which I dont think is unreasonable.

Maybe the Parks could open the rest rooms and make sure the area is plowed.

There is a winter festival at chautauqua lake every year we should try to keep it at least a couple weeks away from that as not to have a parking issue or interfere with there events.

The winter fest is in Mayville. The only extra vehicles I see parked at LP is the snowmobile trailers. I will stop by the point and talk with the maintenance guy to see if there are any probs with the whole idea. I am willing to bring any extra gear I have if someone shows up without or is just learning. My thoughts on when it should be is any weekend other than 2/13-2/14. I get myself in enough trouble to be on the ice that weekend.

yeah I guess that makes sense however that is a weekend I like to "hide" anyways. Doesn't the little lady fish with you or is that just fair weather? I think the weekend just before that 2/6 - 2/7 would work out . I believe the ice fest in mayville is mid january it wouldn't really affect us in the long point area. I also have a few extra portables and other extra stuff for people who may need it. I/we can also arrange on site bait I bet. Bait shop down that way is run by some cool people. Assuming we have good weather this would be a good day and place to bring a newbie along we will catch fish. Before we set a solid date I want to have a look and make sure our gathering will not interfere with any others (as I want to hit a couple other ones...conesus...cuba and I am sure I am not the only one. Now we just need some ice. I think we should have some sort of derby going on but we can bang out those details later. I just know we always talk about this kind of thing mid january when people have plans and cannot make it on such short notice. This should be plenty of notice.

LOL, the little lady gets out on the ice, just not her idea of a great V-day. I haven't herd of any other tourneys that weekend. Talked with Brian (Happy Hooker) last night he says he is in on anything he could do. Really would like to see 25+ guys from here out there.

I'm in!!!! I fish alone since Retski moved to MN last summer. I have room for car pooling (8 Passenger Suburban and large trailer for gear) Just as long as your not an ax murderer or something :o
Long Point would be the place to go. Satuday or Sunday or maybe both. Lake Cha Cha is worth spending the night.

I can help as well. I have a single clam I can use and I also have a Shappell 3000 for others to use.....hopefully for someone's kids to be comfortable in so they gain a better appreciation for ice fishing and our ranks grow.

Feb will be awesome. My wife and daughter are going to be in D.C. with her brother for a week, 2 weekends.
Are there cabins to rent at the state park? It's like a 3 hour drive for me from Rochester area, I'll probably be looking to stay over night. Might as well stay and fish 2 days.

Unfortunately there are no cabins at the park, but there are plenty of places within minutes to stay at. I will check on prices and availability for everyone in need.

I am thinking the 6th-7th of february would be the best weekend so plan on it . I will start putting a list together (what we will need, who will be there, and what we need/or can help out with (equipment, food, grills, transportation, etc.) I will be bringing my 8 yr old and am hoping he will not be the only kid out there this is a great opportunity for kids with a good number of guys who know what they are doing on a productive body of water could have a fishing buddy for life. My comp is all screwy right now so I cannot receive or send PM's right now. I will be there both days of the weekend, but I think we will set-up the true "get-together" for whatever day is better for everyone. winter is here fellas...

So far I have 4 other guys that are in for any weekend. I have an extra hut someone could use if needed. If the ice is good I'll bring the atv, and I don't mind pulling gear out if someone needs a hand.

If anyone is going the 6th from the Buffalo/Tonawanda area I can still donate some old equipment that could be given to any kids who attend. I can probably come up with a couple combos and a tipup or two, maybe a few jigs also. If I can't attend due to this tourney I would still like to help out and make a kids day.

Let's get this thing going Feb. 6th .I am a morning person and also pretty local so I have no problem with any time 6:30-7:00am if that works. I have extra huts and a power auger that likes to work (jiffy) . My buddy still says he will bring the 4-wheeler for those that want help dragging gear, although at long point you really do not have to go far to get into fish. I know I said this already, but I will get on it now getting a list of people coming and food,tables,grills,extra help they have offered so we know what we have or need. I plan on bringing the family for at least a few hours in the am and would encourage others to do the same nothing better than getting younguns into our great sport.

I have a quad also. This is just a 2WD though so depending on conditions. Put me down for a 5lb bag of sahlens and have two smaller folding tables..Put these together and its perfect for beer pong ::) J/K, if you guys are bringing kids I'll pack up my boys, 5 and 8..

Talked with the plow guy at Lp this am. He says its all good to have a gathering there. The main lot will be plowed all winter along with the road/mini lot to the bath house. Rest rooms are closed all winter though.

Defined interested might be bringing my 12 year old son. I'm from oswego and started ice fishing last year. I am always looking for an opportunity to fish somewhere new and meet new people. I might be able to get a couple of more guys to tag along. i would like to bring something hotdogs rolls etc let me know when you start your list. Also looking for information on hotels as we might spend the night.

Allright things seem to be coming together nicely. Oswego guys or anyone really this is a fun lake to fish with a very high probablity of success. Mostly perch with some good ones mixed in. There are walleyes and once in a while you hook into a musky (they are out of season) but they still hit our bigger perch spoons and pull like crazy. Also there are good bluegills and crappies. Ngdogg bring the beer pong table nothing wrong with that ;)

I got a list started I will start working on a head count shortly so we figure out how much stuff we need.
this is what we got so far
Me (should be enough by itself ;D) nah j/k
4 or 5 extra shanties a couple of which are large and could fit a couple kids and dad.
power augers and operators for those who may need help (there is gonna be 12-14" (this is my guess on ice thickness) ;D
venison-steaks, burgers, and italian sausage possibly some jerky Deer wings also which I have not ever had and sound great
chopped peppers and onions for said food rolls also for the sausage and hot dogs
a couple small grills (probably could use a couple more
beer (always can use more of this though 8) )
hot coocoa freshly made (awesome)
some fire hall tables (they are very long and probably free for me to use)
beer-pong table (if the need arises ;D)
some lawn chairs
extra jigs,rods,tip-ups,tip-downs
a couple of 4-wheelers to help drag stuff out
many people also willing to help
many experienced fisherman (this is one of the reasons I personally am trying to get this thing big) could learn some things.

He is in the buffalo area and willing to lend some gear to someone who is bringing the kids or people without 8) thanks good luck on silver... by the way I and quite a few others sound like we are going out on sunday as well hope to see you there. I'd like to make it like a 10 dollar a head buy in and make the payouts dependant on the number of entrants possibly a side bet/pot for walleye or "other" to whoever wants to get involved. Travis We may need another grill if that i possible aside from that I am not sure what we will need I am not sure how many we will have to attend this so it is hard to tell right now. If there is interest I would like to set up on site bait. I am not sure if it is feasible, but I'd like to ask Brian (Happy Hooker) if he can do anything in that regard, at the same time I know he plans on coming with his crew to fish and I do not want to cut anymore into his fishing time seems his shop is doing that for him. One of my fishing buddies, snowmandan is a member here , he is also my spud bar gonna convince him to check the ice out that way this weekend ;D I cannot imagine the ice not being thick enough by Feb though

I want to add this could become a yearly event I know I want it to be . The derby will have some rules which are going to be worked out very soon would like some input/help on ideas . We could go with biggest overall, biggest 5,10,15, or any number creel. My thoughts would be 5 or 10 best perch in your bucket total length with the tie breaker being largest overall. I would like a Big fish pool also. If I am going too far let me know. Like I said I want input and help setting this up. I plan on fishing, but have no problem also "weighing" in contestants catches . I think it would be a good idea to have a few of us working together on this so there is no issues. I know most of us are a good bunch, but I also know what competition does to some and don't want any issues. Let us know what you all think please.

Howesfc I don't think so. Why do you ask? Sounds like we will be having a get together and if a derby or whatever isn't a good idea it can go away , but I see no problem with it. I will be at Long Point State Park well before 7am on Sat Feb 6 th witht the intentions on fishing with some ice shanty guys if the amount of people who have chimed in saying they are coming don't it will just be a smaller gathering. No pipe dream something is gonna happen. I want to meet and fish with more of you guys this year and this would be a good way to meet people for fishermen like me who are not overly out-going. If that is a reference to ice conditions I am at least 95% positive there will be ZERO issues with that.

I'm there man. I have quad but it's only two wheel drive so conditions have to be good to drag with it. As far as $$ goes for tourney, what ever works. $10 is cool with me. Like I said, put me down for 5LB of Sahlens. Also grab a few 2 liter of pop or something. I hav two boys 5 and 8, take them on the ice once in awhile but not often. I usually like going without them because they can be a drag at times..But if there is going to be kids should bring 'em.
Don't really have anything to donate but above mentioned. If anyone wants to meet up, I'll be at burtis Saturday AM and would like to go at nite but may lose my partner due to bowling league...Umm may hit it up Sunday AM before I go back to b-lo..

There are certainly some nice crappies in that lake as well. Bring a lantern the crappie fishing is WAY better when the sun goes down (as it is on many lakes). Nate,my buddy caught a huge perch in burtis hopefully that is a sign of what we will find in the deeper waters this year, although I will not complain if they are even the size they were last year. The one he caught was right around 13" and looked lot more like an erie perch than what we normally see on chatauqua.

sign in will be starting at 6:30 I/we will be set up on the ice and will find a way to stand out. If anyone has a shanty flag we can rig up a way to fly it I do not. tourney/derby sign-ups will start at the same time if we go that route.

Hey Guys, It sounds like fun and you know I'm in. I could sell bait and give reciepts for certified minnows for a few hours, but I want to fish to. Will we need permits for this? Maybe a tailgate type get together would be better so nobody gets stuck working the whole time. You know everybody brings their own food and equipment and then we all clean up afterwards. Something to think about anyway. I'd be willing to donate a couple of prizes if you decide to do that. Brian

Wow, what a good idea, count me in. Haven't been on IS much this year seems to be really taking off with lots of new faces. I got to go over the logistics, but it sounds like a great idea. I could bring a gas grill and a smokey joe and charcoal. How to go about food would be a good thing to think about, should we do bring your own, pot luck kind of thing or collectively purchase whatever. Either way it sounds like a great time, I do have to work Sat. mornings but could probably make the lake by 12 or 1.

Marcus seems like things are coming together, so I hate to throw you a curve but check with one of the New York Mods to see if you can have cash prizes. I believe if you are using Ice Shanties name you may not have cash prizes . At last years Oneida Lake Gathering we had a prize pool we asked each member attending to bring a donation to the pool. (jigging rod ,Jigs tip up line, etc.) You had to sign in at the local bait shop or at the designated meeting spot. See the thread New York GET Together Oneida Lake for more details.
Also if members bringing Snow Mobiles/ATVs have extra helmets they should bring them NY.law require operator and passenger to wear them when riding machines. If you expect a lot of children or families you may want some members to bring camping toilets depending how far group will be from any available bathrooms. One shanty could serve as group bathroom. (I' thinking a hub or cabin style portable)

Joe around here we need a slight warm-up there is too much snow for any ice development and the nights will be below freezing so it really won't be that bad aside from a little bit of the shore. I thought nixing the cash derby plan would be a good idea due to the problem's that could arise. We will figure something out in that regard. The ice will not get hurt by the 4 or 5 days of 30-40 degree with nights in the 20's so that should not be an issue. Bathrooms are an issue, my kids know the deal if you got to go on the ice you GOT TO GO ON THE ICE, they learned that at 4 and 2. I realize it is probably not the norm for the kids to know such a rule, but I am not sure how this issue could be resolved? I know the bathrooms at Long Point are closed in the winter.

If bathrooms will be a problem, a porta potty could be rented for the weekend. They are not that expensive, especially if some people chip in. We could even tow it onto the ice, but i'm not sure if the dec would frown on that or not.

The ice is not getting bad it just has never been that good. it is a little below freezing right now and will not get much more than a couple degrees above freezing for the next week or so with one day (sunday) being around 40, but still below freezing at night. I sure hope a few from central NY would head out . I am not sure of the exact adress but it is on rte 430 in or slightly south of maple springs. It is a state park Long Point State Park. Bring whatever you want we have quite a few who have chimed in with what they are bringing and I think I put a list up. I know the local bait guy is gonna bring some bait not sure exactly what he will have but most likely any bait you will need will be onsite which is nice obviously. We will keep everyone updated about the ice conditions, but I feel confident we will be golden, as a matter of fact, it would be nice if things stayed similar very easy pull not real sloppy no snow. It would be nice to have a bit more ice though. Getting psyched for this thing to happen.

hey Marcus, I see that you are from Cassadaga or near there. I was searching online for information on Cassadaga Lake's ice conditions this morning and i stumbled upon this website. I am originally from Silver Creek but im living in Fredonia now. When i fish cassadaga lake i am usually in search of the crappie and i can never get a steady bite of them, its always one here and one there... I heard from people that the crappie bite is better at night on that lake, is this true? And also how is the ice this week?

really? i heard chautauqua got bad this weekend. Either way it doesn't look like its going to get any better this week...I don't like to go out until there's at least 6-7 inches of ice...Cassadaga or Chautauqua have that much? Know anything on Bear Lake's status?

postletown there is that much ice on both cassadaga and chatauqua. My friends have fished cassadaga and all they are coming up with are very small perch. Chatauqua has bad spots but there is decent ice in most of the areas. We will be alright. Huners no problem buttin in I saw the pics you definately got me beat when it comes to doling out info on the crappies. 4 or 5 years ago we caught tons of crappie in cassadaga lake through the ice but have not been able to find them again. We catch alot of them in the spring, lots of shorts , but enough fish to keep it interesting with some very big ones here and there. Night is better but it is a tough lake to really get on them.

It has been a few days since I have checked this thread. My idea for a bathroom is using a hub or cabin style shanty. You can purchase bucket style toilets or toilet seat lids that attach to a five gallon bucket. (try Gander Mountian or similar store) Line bucket with a couple trash bags add an inch or two of scented cat litter and you have one ice toilet. Do not forget the toilet paper and some type of hand sanitizer .

I spoke with brian from the happy hooker today and he said he will bring bait just wanted to get an idea of what we everyone will need and if people would like this service? He has bait tanks and will have all needed grubs (waxies,mousies, and spikes) He wants to fish so there will be some limits on time not sure of the specifics there, but I am sure he will open for business early a.m. (hoping he can get there 6-6:30 - ish). I am just wondering what level of interest there is in something like this? I plan on hitting the ice at 4 or so on the 6th so I can get some very early fishing in and be all set up. I will probably have to leave sometime in the am to pick up the rest of my family, looks like the wifey is gonna let me take the 3 yr old finally ;D. Of course this is assuming the weather gods don't throw major wind or frigid cold for that weekend. 2 weeks I am getting pumped

I'm in all the way..... The first I heard of this from my son I was pumped. We will have a 4 man shanty if anyone wants to come in and also I will be bringing my 4 wheeler and power auger to assist anyone who needs assistance out on the lake. I will also be bringing a fantastic camera for pictures to post.
Never fished Chautuaqua Lake on hard water but slaughtered the perch and caught walleye/bass in the summer.
Looking forward to meeting new people, sometimes that is worth the trip alone...

Now my unexpected daughter read this and she wants to come and enjoy the day. So I am gonna have to take her for her fishing license since she just turned 16. I was thinking of bringing a plastic sled down so my kids can have some fun pulling other kids around on the ice.

I made reservations for Redwood Ranch which is 5 minutes away. They are charging me $60.00 for me and my son. Cheapest one i could find.
Hope it helps. Also they will except credit card to hold room but required personal check or cash when you arrive.

looks like I will have my little man all day my other kids will not be coming :( . Oh well they are young and do not enjoy the cold at all. I sure hope the hot chocolate is flowing no beer for this guy, I will be hanging with the 8 yr old. I am gonna be there early . I am gonna try and personalize my shappell 3000DX I have a paint marker and i want to be able to be found . I hope to see a good turn out. Sounds like the perch are becoming a bit more cooperative. I will say the weather looks great for fishing 26-32 degrees snow, clouds and very little wind I hope to see some kids out there.

It's getting closer. Figured out what to bring. I will have a 30gal. trash can tied to the Fish Trap II for all to use. If I can go back out Sunday and not find a mess out on the ice it will be a successful day. IMO

Hey Fishtrap I have some 55 gallon steel lined commmercial trash bags if you want me to bring them. I'll bring a roll of Duck Tape too if you want. I am all in for keeping it clean out there. We use them for construction debris...

I was thinking the same thing travis about having a "traveling" trash can. As you saw the other night I move alot when fishing I do cover some ground. I am bringing a charcoal grill. It is not all that big but it can cook some food. A couple others said they are bringing grills so yes we will have grills going. I hope some kids are out I will have 1 of my troup with me for his first dark to dark real fishing day. In regards to that sentence, does anyone know where to get decnet boots or socks (anything other than cotton)? I may live in the woods but I work in buffalo everyday so I can get to the stores up there also. I plan on checking tractor supply in hamburg and dunkirk tomorrow. I can find uninsualted fully waterproof (barn boot style) or heavily insulated and nowhere near waterproof. I know once I figured the footwear problem out I have not had wet or cold feet myself.

Marcus I will have my wood burner and a load of 4" x 4" oak blocks. So will have a fire going too i guess. I introduced this forum to a good friend of mine and now he is hooked. Told him about this weekend and he is also coming down for the day. He is just getting into icefishing, he is more of a hunter. He is also going next week to Simcoe. Looking forward to this BIG TIME

guess I figured the guy was joking about the limo in return I was joking about bringing it on the ice. My cavalier on the other hand... Really cool we are gonna have a porta john out there will help for sure. I saw this event mentioned in the buffalo news today kinda cool to see. I will be there very early after the eyes with a crew, hopefully they are willing to help get set up. Auger is running like a champ anyone with hole drilling issues please don't be shy, I would rather cut hundreds of holes than have to see people struggle. I found the boy some boots today quite a task finding "good" gear for younguns. There is gonna be quite a few people out there by the sounds a couple of my friends heard a couple different groups of guys at hogan's hut and happy hooker talking about it. Same friends also did real well on the perch at Long Point yeaterday. Gonna get out tomorrow night for some walleye fishing hopefully the fish will cooperate

fished today from 7-430 started off at longpoint caught around 30between 3 of us. than fishing shut right down went over the pendergast and did well ended up with 67between the three of us. talked to a few guys best spot for walleyes has been toms point. ill be there saturday with a few guys and my nephew

I hope people are bringing kids I would like to have a derby for them. Free (obviously to enter) we will have a variety of prizes ( jigs, boxes, rods, reels, combos, tip-ups and the like) I have some stuff for it and i bought a few things also Irish jigger, who cannot make it, has offered some equipment which I will be picking up tomorrow for either the kids or for anyone who may not have everything they need to fish. We are all well stocked, if you do not think you can fish due to lack of equipment , you have no worries we can outfit you. I personally like to get people involved in this great sport. The kids derby will be from 10-ish to 1-ish I really have not hashed out all the details, but we will be doing this. If it is on the fly, so be it the kids will have a blast. Gonna be longest fish and other unknown right now categories. Thanks for the advice on the boots I did end up finding a pair as well as some real high quality socks at tractor supply.

Ice is great at long Point. I fished on 9+" of black ice with about 4" of snow on top.

Okay some good stuff being written here. First I seen Jim Beam and then fishing after hours for EYES.
Yup some good stuff. I plan on staying after hours on the ice for awhile. I did see it in the Buffalo Paper and it was definitly mentioned so we can expect a crowd.
I know I surely hope to run into Marcus and Game Hog. There some cool people to fish with the way they talk.

Hi folks. Is anyone going to be sticking around and fishing on Sunday? Have never been to Chatauqua lake (2-1/2 hr drive) and won't be able to get there Saturday (teaching til noon). Considering getting up early Sunday and making road trip.
Rich: Thank you for the map of Chatauqua. The area you marked as questionable is definately useful, perhaps lifesaving (especially with local ice fisherman going through ice last weekend and not making it back out.)

I guess we have to discuss this with Marcus... Also how are we going to find Marcus on Saturday with the amount of people coming. I'd be willing to pick up something tonight from Gander Mountain to be put with the give aways for the kids. The more you draw there attention to the sport the more they will be come additive. every year we talk about it this year lets get this thing going before it is too late. I do not have the means or time to organize this alone, but I am willing to do everything I can with what I have. I would like to try for early feb. we will have ice then for sure and it is far enough off that we can get things arranged and all set. Not only because it is close to me but because everyone will catch fish I think chatauqua is a good spot...also large enough to accomodate a good number of people. I am opening this thread with the hopes that we can discuss the logistics well in advance. I would like to have a derby of sorts and I am looking into what we have to do to make it happen please feel free to float any ideas thanks

I like the radio idea but for the amount of people on the ice, the radio's will be buzzing and no one will know who's on what channel. I think iceman hit it on the nose with an air horn. Just my opinion. I think the age groups for prizes should be to the age of 17 yrs old.

I agree but for the contest for the kids and to let them know where to sign up and register the catches we need a location. maybe they can annouce it on the radio but an air horn will also pin point it

Travis I ordered the marcum vx-1 pro It seems to have everything I want in a flasher within my budget. Well o.k. imagined budget no way I can actually afford but it is too late now it is paid and on its way ;D. I will not get it until monday or tuesday but the old eagle will work for one more weekend I guess. I found some craps and it would have been very difficult to catch them without a flasher/finder they were 5-10' down over 30+ My old eagle worked, but it is starting to show its age. I will try and get a radio and an airhorn. I am working 10 hours a day right now so I am beat but I have a few friends coming with me who are gonna help me get organized and geared up I am pumped . I am trying to figure a way to be noticeable out there , but I have not come up with much. Bob I think the best way to have a derby for the kids would be to set them up in an area like you said and i really like the airhorn idea. I will be starting my day out over walleye waters, but I think as the sun comes up I will relocate to near the launch and try to be in a central area. We will see what kind of group we get before deciding exact age groups and stuff but I think 12 and under 12-17 or so unless there are a lot of real little ones then we will give them there own age group we will more than likely take everything on the fly as far as location for the kids and times I am thinking a 9 or 10 oclock start for the kids derby to give people a chance to get there. Sadly I do not have a digital camera right now so everyone bring yours please. Grills will be going by 10. It is supposed to be quite a bit colder than originally thought but no real wind so it should not be too bad or too wet should be a nice day. Looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible. I will wear my blaze orange vest and black carhart bibs. I will be noticeable, however I am sure I will not be the only one in this attire. Anyone that wants to see a flasher in action I have a very simple one to use it is old and aging, but it will give you the idea. Once you see/try one you will need one. We are bringing some huts one I am setting up and heating for my boy to relax and warm up in other kids are welcome to join him. We will also have a few more out there for those who may want/need one to use as well.

Sounds like a good plan. I have my three radios and my boys and I will be on the channel. Maybe a flag stuck in the ice might work well too?
I will be straight out from LP heading south most likely. I will be with ICEMAN73 and TAT2BILL. So I will have my own little village started. Maybe I might put a flag on my 4 wheeler as well.
I have a real nice digital camera and will have it with me. It takes awesome pictures so my boy will be wandering around taking pictures I am sure.
Like I said I am leaving North Tonawanda at 3:45 and meeting TAT2BILL on the thruway. Then we need to stop at the happy hooker. I hope to be loaded and on ice by 6:30am. I fishing into the night for eyes also.

Long Point State Park is north of Bemus Point and it is located right off Route 430. We are all parking there.

Just head towards bemus/bridge on the same road maple springs is on (rte 430) cannot miss it it is a large state park. I had a Loooong week so preparations are lacking on my end. I have the grill and stove and huts, but I did not get a radio or anything really distinguishing aside from the blaze orange jacket. I will be with a large group . We are gonna head out towards the point around 5:30 (after hitting the bait shop and getting there.) and we will be trying for eyes early then 8 or so I plan on moving my operation in some to meet and greet. I am not sure what i have for a pole but I have a decent sized american flag I may fly off of my shappell DX3000 I will post to let you know beforehand.

Was out from the bathhouse today with ICDucks and GameHog (for part of the day). Hit the perch pretty well.
First time on the ice ever and I am hooked! Just got done filleting some perch...about 28 of them in all...

Were leaving around 4:30 from Tonawanda. My oldest daughter backed out when she found out how early "wimp" but my youngest said she'd go. Looking forward to the kids derby. fishing was slow to say the least. Had a good time got to meet quite a few people and although the fish were not cooperating everyone seemed to be smiling. TCBASS michael perch won and I have his tip-ups. We will figure out a way to get them to him. Thanks everyone .

BTW Marcus brought Joseph over to show us how to catch fish and I guess we werent as good at being students as he was at bein a teacher cause he caught 2 fish on my sons rod while he was there and I dont think many more were caught after he left!!! Thank you Joseph!!!

Sorry it took me to long to post after Saturday's event. I got home today around 630pm and then had to clean fish and cook dinner. I kept around 35 perch between lp and mayville.
Saturday was a great time. I met so many people including Marcus and Travis. I enjoyed pulling people out to the village and back in with my wheelers or shall I say the boys did. My son said one individual offered him $20.oo for being so kind but he refused. People we are a community of fisherman and this is graditude for one another.
I had to laugh with the little boy riding around on the wheeler with the flag and then the adults. Then for him to catch the mud puppy. 10 Minutes later my boy did the same thing.
Hey John from Oswego I got room 9 in Redwood and your light wasn't there.
Okay enought with Lp. I have to admit Mayville would of been better with out the sleds riding around. Oh my god they where flying all day.
ICESHANTY there is some true hard water fishermen.

I was at MS before light, and came back to LP around 1 to see how everyone was doing. I can't remember all the names, but it was nice meeting everyone I spoke to. I will remember your face next time!. The people I spoke to said the fishing was slow, so I hung around for a bit, then headed back over to the north side of the point. Went home with 38 good keepers, and had about 30 throw backs. I headed off the ice a little after 5, and LP really cleared out. I was expecting to see a lot of garbage too, but everyone kept it clean. Nice job!

Around 6pm I/we packed up at LP, then I went out about 300 yards alone to Pendergrass Point till 11pm looking for the eyes, no luck. Was going to go out Sunday, but my head cold came back and I was beat from day before.

Had a great time fishing with everybody on Saturday good people fishing a little slow ended up with 38 keepers . Looked like the kids had a great time. The worst part of the day pulled all my stuff out there took the top off of my minnow bucket Gander gave me fat heads instead of shiners !!! so dumped them and made the walk back to truck then to bait shop for shiners wow what a difference I'll never use fat heads if i have a choice. tight lines everyone.

Glad I could contribute even if I couldn't make it. My partner and I took 7th out of 23 teams at the tourney, 12 gills at 3.73lbs. Unfortunately we didn't win anything they paid out 1-4 and had prizes for 5,6,8,10. Although we did well we fell in a place with no prizes. I'll have to take a couple happy kids as my prize for that day and thats more than worth it. A couple of my friends and I were thinking about Long Point for saturday maybe we can meet up and fish then. Glad everything worked out well.

Sorry this is so late ... I had a great time last weekend meeting you guys .Thanks for letting me tag along with your crew Marcus . I took home 20 perch when all was said and done and no walleye.Stepped in a hole coming off the ice saturday night in the dark and through out my back so i never got to fish on sunday.Looking forward to another trip out there this year with any luck.

Mike it was great to meet ad fish with you last weekend sorry about the mishaps (late and getting lost on my own turf :o) I did not fish on sunday either my warm bed and warm wife made it very hard to climb out of bed ;). Make sure to let me know when you are headed back out this way I can guarantee the perch fishing will be at least twice as good. We hit a fluke day out there. Joseph is gonna "teach" me to catch walleye in the a.m. tomorrow gonna try thumb rd if the snow doesn't get overboard. (long walk for an eight year old if the snow is deep.) Got my new marcum in so joseph now has his own flasher, kinda nervous he is gonna embarass me. We will be out there in my shappell 3000 DX before light come by and say hi if you are around. We need a fresh fish fry tomorrow ;D

I'll be at the Ice Castle and FireWorks in Mayville with the fam Sat Night. Want to go for eyes SUnday morn. Does anyone want show me how to do it??? and if anyone is in CLymer Sunday morning want to pick me up, it would help with the logistics of it. Wife and 4 kids needs our truck to show up on the ice later for the first time and see what the fun is all about. I don't ask for much do I :unsure: :icefish:
