Are those 40" rods ? All my pans are shorties

Those are 36. I love the longer rods when fishing outside. I have two 48's ill be making  ;D
that 36 could be cut down alot - it has a super soft tip then solid backbone. You could take 1.5in off the tip before messing with the action and a foot off the back end. I'll leave one at MuckyVille for ya. Hopefully Tank and I get up there next week...

I like 36" myself. Even in my Yukon. Just thinking about ice today

I'm not an Oneida resident but I think I've heard that for at least the last 3 or 4 years.  Maybe it'll happen but I know a certain guy that has reservations to stay there for 3 days this winter.  ;)

Nothing is set in stone but it is looking like the normal "First Ice" event might not happen. Gander historically has done 3 of them. MN, Wisconson, and NY. Word on the street is that Michigan is getting the NY one. As I know more I will pass it along...
Also - Gander has asked Clam to have a "Pro" present in the ice belt stores on the 5 Saturdays leading up to Christmas. I am lined up for the 6th and 20th...

Nickeyes get ready on here guys love to bust chops  ;D perch on Oneida small Swedish pimples tipped , small raps 1&3,s also tipped ,
Basic colors blk/ slv, bl/silv, nat perch and toss in a fire tiger and go from there , when ice gets here post us and some will help , if your stumped but of course we maybe to , there are no guarantees , first ice for eyes on a community spot I will be glad to help ,that's the first good bite , really are no secrets just presentation , go back to last years posts and before and you will pick up a lot of info just do a little home work as many have done , then it is understanding how the fish react to your bait tells a lot , if you don't have a fish finder ask for one as an X-mas flasher to start that's over half the battle just an ol buzzards .02

Just to add to fillets info... Oneida is big, a map and a flasher imho is half the battle. Finding drop offs and humps helps find fish. Flasher will let you know how they are reacting to your presentation. I usually start with a small rap tipped with a buckeye head and go from there. Dead sticking a whole live buckeye right above the bottom on the smallest treble you can find can save the day when all else fails. There's my .02 cents. Almost up to a nickel... :)

Most of my reels come off of my open water rods. pflueger presidents and medalists with some cheap ice reels mixed in. For rods I like short stiff rods with only 2-3 eyelets. I have one 34" rod also with only 3 large eyelets for hole hoping. I have them custom made by a local guy and like them more than any other rods I have. Time on the ice will help you figure out what you like best. Some guys feel the need to spend $100 on a rod.... I tried them and really can't say I catch more fish than with my $20 ones.

JM Meat Stick is my dead stick, my jigging rod, St Croix premier. I have a Wicked rod with a 6061 reel, not crazy about it.

It's the 6061 reel, it just doesn't fit me. I keep gravitating back to the spinning reel. It's weird, I have a traditional bait caster reel for Lakers and love it.

I just wanted to let you all know in case you haven't heard yet, the NYS Ice Pro-Am Tournament Series is coming to Oneida Lake on Sunday February 15th. This is a Team-Only event (1 or 2 man teams, not a full IPA event as we do not have a facility to full event out of yet), capped at 100 teams. The event will take place out of App's, feature our traditional shotgun style start, cash payout based on # of teams (100 teams = $3500 1st place, paying down 5 places), details and early mail-in registration can be found at: www.NYSiceproam.com    Online registration will open soon.

Please feel free to ask questions and I look forward to seeing you all on the ice this season!! You do not have to fish the other IPA events to be in this one, the full series of events only applies to those going for the Triple Corwn Series Title.

Q: Is there a stocking program for Oneida? If so, who is in charge of that program?

Do they stock Oneida with eyes from that location? I would like to give back some of the proceeds from the event to the stocking program for the lake. It would be great to reach our max of 100 teams at this event!!

They do stock Oneida from there.  In fact they harvest between 200 and 300 million walleye eggs a year from Oneida Lake and release "300,000 pond-reared, 190,000 intensively reared, and 190,000,000 walleye fry to stock into 50 or more waters across the state" (from DEC's website).
