Bonus Day today.  I had a few hrs free and with the weekend weather looking sketchy I loaded up the smitty sled and hit a spot the payed earlier in the week.  Can you say on FIRE!  I was a little tired and slept in. It was also a long walk so I probably didn't start fishing till 8:30.  Had 3 on the ice by 9:30.  16, 20 & 23.  Also got 3 shorts.  Packed up and headed home to get some chores done.  Gotta learn how to post pics here.  Always better with company but I'll go alone before sitting around.

Nice job, Racer!!!!

Spent Thursday and today with the Wife, coming up on our 20th Anniversary. Looking to be out on Oneida Tomorrow and Sunday. The wind looks to be an issue for tomorrow, hopefully the forecasters are wrong as they have been for the past couple. According to some people, the bite is hot right now.

I thought that walking 2 miles with all gear and braving the frigid temps was enough. WHAT MORE COULD THAT LAKE WANT. I did not even care if it was a short eye just wanted to knock it off the list but I guess I need to get to know the lake or maybe fish with some one that has electronics so i can atleast know they are down there and it is just a matter of time. I know I will go back just felt like grumbling a bit should have kept it to myself. I have vacation from the jan 26-feb 9  it is an hour drive but sure that i will go back. I know that asking for help is frowned upon but if there is an are where I do not need to walk out 2 miles to hope to find fish i am all ears . Do not know the lake well. No electronics and no smartphone for nav apps so I am depending on the kindness of strangers for a little info. pm if you wish. Thanks

go right down to apps and get the best map printed bar none , and then take some clear contact paper and make it water proof , it will help and 2 miles is to far to walk , and save your change and get some type of fish finder , pm sent

Thanks Pooch.  Stormy,  as soon as I read up on how to post pic's here, I'll show my cell phone aux. power.  bought it at the outdoor show last year.  It's small and works great.

Good luck this weekend everyone.

They make external chargers you charge at home , they are smaller than your phone , you plug into your phone and can charge your phone twice on one full charge from the external

I've been fishing Oneida for 3 years now. 3-5 day trips per year. Unfortunately it is a 3 hour drive for me and I go when I can go despite the weather. I had a great day by my standards on Wednesday in the bitter cold. I left Oneida fulfilled for the first time. No walleye limit but I had a great day nonetheless. What I did differently this time....I found my own fish. For the past 3 season I chased other peoples fish, friends, shanty folks etc... Every time without fail I "shoulda been there yesterday". Ice shanty is a great resource and I have learned a ton of info following this thread...access, ice conditions, techniques. But I guess my best advice to all the new folks asking all the relentless questions....read read read, buy a lake map or app on the smart phones, use a sonar and most importantly, find your own fish. I will never be sucked into going where they were hitting yesterday. To all the regulars on this thread, thank you for the volumes of information for anyone willing to just read. Tight lines everyone. Oneida is a special place. I'm hooked.

You know there's two 3 Mile Bays in NY right?  There's 3 Mile Bay on Oneida Lake and there's a 3 Mile Bay in in Chaumont Bay.  3 Mile Bay is the next town north on rt 12 of the village of Chaumont.  Just clarifying, sounds like not everyone is aware of this.

Well as far as charging systems, phones, & backup plans go......I'm all for it. But I never rely on it.  I hope you don't either........
I just bought the driod maxx couple months ago( because I had a razor & hate change).  Same as the ultra except it has a battery 2-4 times the size of every other smart phone battery.  Cost me an extra $100. Also bought wireless charging pad and backup charger.  I have nearly killed it twice on the ice this yr.
I keep it in an otter box under my suit unless in use so its warm and doesn't die due to cold.
I'm a little crazy and fish in conditions most won't. And even with my handheld and phone, won't go out without a $5 compass.........jmho
