16 below zero this morning here, 29 below in Watertown, any northshore numbers?

COLD I'm out here now. Getting ready to head in. Only 1 keeper and 2 shorts...not a very good morning for me

Check out this amazing Walleye caught by a friend of a friend yesterday in the Bass Islands of Lake Erie...They have a good digital scale that put her at 17 lbs, but they were in the process of getting a certified weight to see if in fact this fish is a new Ohio state record.....Couldn't imagine catching a fish like that, let alone through an ice hole!

Isn't that the guy from WFN that has his own show?

7 below at 7am when I left for work.

Same here on the south shore in Cicero.  Temp was 7 above at 2am, was starting to clear a bit and was 5 above a t 4am.  Really dropped quick after that.  I know that snow insulates pretty good but given the prolonged cold i'm going to have to believe she will be making ice ???

BTW, That is one fantastic Walleye of a lifetime!!!!!

This year is my first time fishing Oneida and hearing about your gas holes out there has freaked me out some. I will be wearing a life vest under the coat from now on while traveling on the quad to find the fish. I have never broke through and hope i never do. I have watched video's on what to do and how to get out, but no matter how much I watch or read I could not imagine being in that situation.
Hope all that fell through are all OK. Stay safe.

My buddy went through the ice Sunday morning.  I did not go out but he was with my fishing partner and his son investigating a pressure crack before they crossed it with the four-wheeler.  They were heading out of the south shore launch.  In hind sight he should have had a spud but was solid all the way to the crack until he took the last step towards the edge of the crack.  Luckily he's in great shape and was able to crawl right back out.  There were even snowmobile tracks crossing in the same spot.  Scary because I know these guys well and they are not ones to take chances.  You can never be too careful and bizarre things can happen.

Buy a spud and use it all season I guess is the lesson.

New to the site and Oneida lake.  Looking to get out this weekend for some perch and eyes.  Am I too late or is there still good fishing to be had?

Looking for some info on electronics was going to invest in a flasher but have seen people posting how happy they are with there lowrance series 5 my question is I have a elite 5 DSI for my boat can I use that on the ice to instead of buying a whole new unit
Absolutely, the only thing you want to do is buy the portable ice pack for it. It comes with everything but the head unit, case, battery, charger, and the ice ducer which should fit the unit. Its not cheap I paid $150 for it on eBay cause I didn't want to spend another $400 because on my small boat I use the elite 4 and have all my GPS coordinates on it so I swap them back and forth no issues.

 N 43 12.011 W 75 51.995  and N 43 12.011 N 75 52.014  its on a drop on a hump northeast of 119, those humps 3/4's of mile north of markers 117-119 have 7 gas holes that I know of, heres another one northwest of 117 , N43 11.888 W 75 51.379, these are just some, but those humps have more.

I have live in NY all my life but have always fished the small waters. Would like to get the monkey off my back and finaly catch an eye through the ice. I do not even care if it is legal. I was thinking about heading up that way in the am if anyone would be nice enough to give me a little info or maybe even want to fish together that would be great and the bait is on me. Have both a 1 man and a pop-up that fishes 2 very comfortable. Pm me if anyone is up for it. I am hopeful.

Oh it's real alright! Don't know the length yet. But at 17 lbs. it's pretty long!
Wow! Unbelievable walleye!  I would not be putting that fish back down the hole.
It must be over 20 years old!  Awesome.

Thanks Snag...My buddy saw one this past friday, south and a little west from taft bay access. He said it was as big as a kitchen table .  It was Several hundred yards offshore, not sure if he took coordinates, but I will post them if he did.

Shane I never claimed to be to bright, although I can catch fish.  Now here's my bright question.  What are gas holes and how do you find them in a boat ??

under water springs of some sort, they bubble in the summer and if the lake goes flat you see them.  they keep ice from forming in that area, on cold nights they skim over or snow blows them shut, but there still there hiding.

South east out of taft a mile plus out my four wheelers back end broke through.. good thing i was motoring along.... upon looking back I realized a 6ft wide by 6ft long pool of open water.. not sure if it was a gas pocket or what.. be careful
.. and there was no evidence. . A crack, wet spot etc...

That one NW of 117 is huge. Anybody have the big one NE of 121, that's another big one.

The navionics app for the smartphone which gives you a gps location and depth of lake is very helpful on oneida.. it also has all bouys labeled.. worth the $10.. in my opinion.. familiarized me with the lake much quicker being a out of towner..

I think the gas holes form in the same place every year.  I am very familiar with a gas pocket off of the south shore that is always there, every year.  Summer or winter I can find it and it is always the same: 2 small bubble streams about 12" apart.  It's an early season walleye hotspot for me.
