50 years ago my father told me something about my kids and money and it is kind of the same here..

"don`t let them struggle but don`t give them so much they don`t have to work"..

Thats the way I am with people as far as it is with fishing  but with my kids and grand kids.. they get all the fishing knowledge I have ..

Fished the North shore today with BB4 and Greenhead.  Tried a new spot that we never fished before on the ice and it was lousy!  4 perch between the 3 of us all day.  But, on the bright side I dominated them both outfishing them each 2 to 1! ;D.  It's a lesson they won't soon forget.

Hardly marked any fish everywhere we went.  Miserable day with the wind, snow and no fish. Thankfully I had a compass or it would have been tough getting around.

Fished hard today, exclusely targeting perch, they were tougher than 2 days ago, I worked really hard to put 24 jumbos in my bucket, it was a grind, marked tons of fish, they zig zagged everywhere til they reached your lure, then they were mud, tried many things, but only got them too hit #3 raps.  Perch tend to get that front hook stuck on the hole more than eyes, dumped quite a few larger ones at the hole, always a fun day trying to trick jumbos.

I have been a quiet member of IS now for 10 years. I have fished this lake for more years than I sometimes want to remember. When we first fished we didn't even use augers, just spuds. Spent most of the time fishing from the North shore out of Bernhards Bay and have seen years with 30 inches of ice where we put extensions on our 6 inch hand augers just to get through.. We used to take out hard side shanties and leave them there at night with our gear inside with no locks on the doors. Never had any issues. As time went on we drifted to other areas and pretty much fish the South Shore now for ease of access and a little closer to home. ATV, power auger, camera  an old fish finder and sometimes my 92 year old dad as company makes up my gear today. Never in all of those years have I put up the numbers that some of you men do today. To be honest sometimes your pictures are what keeps me coming back. Keep up the good work and play safe.

Never been to Oneida, tomorrow is the maiden voyage! Through research and reading about 30 pgs of this forum, fantastic fish everyone btw, i think ive decided on apps landing. Is there any hazards or dangerous conditions i need to know about? Im all for learning on my own as far as tactic, but id love to make sure i dont make a rookie mistake that will make this my last trip to oneida. Any advice is appreciated!

Had a tough grind on the lake today. I could only land 1 walleye, so I spent most of my time trying to find perch.Found a few in 30 fow...only 8 onto the ice.The weather took the fight out of me, so  I did not move as much as I should  have.
Well, at least I had no breakdowns or injuries.
Good job Ht, snag, scout and all you guys who did well today.
My boots on some ice... A line down a hole...Some fish on the screen... And a flag in the air !......Winter is Good !!

They should come up to Black Lake and get a double whammy then.  Why would anyone fish a body of water without reading the special regulations?   :-\ ???

I got to take my son out today. We walked out very late this morning from Godfrey. Marked a few fish and moved a few times and omly got two pins. At noon we went in close and put the camera down. Nothing. The dragging got to the both of us. The last hout i went back deep and he stayed in close. I ended up hokking a few eyes. As im walking back i see him walking to me waving his arms. Oh crap i think. I get a little closer and he has a big ol fish held up over his head.lol. His first chain pickeral. See I told you this hole would produce,he says. You got that right kid, you got  ;)that right.

Awesome pictures and reports everyone...I'm living through all of you this weekend...my kids have a two day swim meet so I took the weekend off the ice...I may shift gears this week and go back to my roots and go find the crappie craps...glad to hear the DEC are slamming people for being fish hogs...that many tickets issued, there is a serious problem out there then, way more not getting caught... :-\ :-\ >:(

Had a good day out there today. Took home 50 perch, 8 burbot and 2 eyes. The perch were on the small side... lots of 8's and 9's...with a few jumbos mixed in. That's ok though...I'm craving some poor man's shrimp. I don't usually keep burbot, but I do keep them in the pail until I leave because they have a tendency to hang around, and I believe it spooks the perch. I just decided to clean some this time. Everything was caught in 20 fow at the same spot. Only drilled two holes all day. Best presentation  for me today was a small tungsten jig head with an impulse plastic mayfly larvae threaded on. Even caught a walleye and a couple burbot on that. Other than that, I was using a glow-perch #3 rap.
****Two different guys wandered up to my shanty today during the white-out, and asked me where in the heck they were. One guy was at least 3/4 of a mile from where he thought he was. He was walking and dragging a shanty too. He was also headed South, when he thought he was heading North!! GUYS...bring a compass or a GPS!!!!!!!!! ****  I was alone and couldn't leave my gear for fear of it getting blown over, or else I would have gave them a lift in the right direction. Felt bad about that...

Always remember .... they have a brain the size of a pea! How hard can it be? ???
