Maybe you don't, but I and my friends do, actually prefer them in a lot of cases. Have you ever tried Cod? They are delicious and meaty, easy to clean as well.

their numbers a shrinking they are a cold water fish ,

Why not the White Perch and Silver Bass ???  That's a win for everybody except the seagulls ;D ;D ;D

I think the white perch are excellent eating. They don't compare to a walleye but what does? As a kid we ate everything. Even the pickerel. Ground them or pressure cooked them and made patties out of them. Not many people do that anymore.

because there are too many of them in the lake just like the white perch. they are like blue jays. well we used to have a lot eating the food for the good birds. not anymore thanks to Gammo ;D

I have always used tiny sampo snap swivels for eyes. Basically because I suffer from old eye disease, and it just makes it easier. I wonder if the fish shy away when and if they see it?

I too had a big pickerel come in 10-12 feet over 22 and as soon as I brought my rap up he nailed it, broke it off at the hole and cut my hand...I thought it was weird it was so high over deep water...the weekend cannot come quick enough...

can't wait to get up there on friday planning on staying til sunday how are the cracks out of taft anyone know please let me know gonna be taking my wheeler.but i also would like to fish costantia haven been there in a while

For whatever reason, I thought it would be a great idea to wander out and pound a few holes through the ice after work. Even with creepers I was pretty much blown to Sylvan. It is glare ice everywhere and the wind was howling. I got on at Bernhards Bay, Taft and Constantia to check things out. Taft has an ice/snow buildup near shore but nothing insurmountable. Ice there was white and only about 5-6 inches in the two holes I drilled. A wheeler was whooping it up out there so it can apparently hold a machine. I plan on going out tomorrow afternoon and Saturday morning...report to follow.  :afro: out

The wind is still howling outside here. Dodged the snow so far. The lake looks like a skating rink.  Sure glad that snow melted off!!

From all accounts it looks like the snowmobile stays and the atv goes to Oneida. Just glad I don't have to walk.

Is there any snow or crusty stuff? With the glare ice you could have issue with the sliders, even with scratchers. I have read somewhere on IS dish detergent/water solution as a lubricant helps? Hoping the lake gets a quick 9+ inches of ice and then about 2-4" of snow or crusty stuff.

CORRECTION: dish detergent/windshield washer fluid solution

I always tie direct, no more metal than is needed......, I do how ever put a break in the line a foot or so up with a barrel swivel too keep line swist down.

I do this too. Makes a big difference. Whether I am fishing flat fish or perch or eyes I always use a tiny barrel swivel with a 2 ft flouro leader. I too tie directly...

Hey Jim I am fishing early Thursday morning and fishing all day. Let me know when you make it to the lake. Maybe we can work something out. I know where you are heading out from and I'll be just a few miles east down the road from there...

I was told the sliders can actually melt and seize up the track, not good.

You don't want to take a sled out w no snow it's a bad idea, not only the sliders melting but the snow keeps the engine cool if it's liquid
It's not that fishing is so important, it's just that so many things in life are so much less important

x2........put it on speed dial...1800-TIPP DEC
The Tipp hot line may be handy but it takes much too long to get any law enforcement to the areas where these crimes are being committed.
Here's the phone numbers of all the local ECO's.  Call them directly.  Give them every bit of information that you can gather and they will respond much quicker !
If you suspect anyone of poaching, let them know who, when and where.   They'll take care of the rest ! ;)
