It's 11* and dropping here in Constantia and it looks like we got maybe 3"-4" of snow last night. The snow this weekend is what I am worried about.

I'm with you reeleyz. It's 5 here and I just went out and put wood in the stove...nice and crispy! Hope the snow stays off the lake!

Lake definitely skimmed over, some spots smoky looking water. Saw in Bernhard's bay there were 2 swan that froze in the ice as they were feeding, they are sitting there with their tails stuck in the air. I was thinking one drowned and it's mate went looking for it.

I had 1 degree near Bernard's Bay on my way to Cleveland at 8:15.  ;D

I saw those swans and thought it looked odd. That sucks.

It is locked all the way across in Cleveland right now.

Hello Boys!

I totally agree 100%

Hope she stays fluid till after the weekend with 4-8" of real snow coming.  Kinda feels like last year with all the wind but the water temp has to be way lower than same time last year.  Won't be long now....

Will the combination of cold temps, open water, and a couple inches of snow hitting it help it? I  would think the snow would chill the top layer & maybe slush up and freeze. Or would  the same situation with no snow freeze faster?

I want a run of a week with nights in the single digits and no snow or wind. Not much to ask for is it? ;)

No wind and no snow + cold.  Water temps are plenty cold enough already.  Black ice is ideal, any thing with white is weaker.  Snow on top of the ice insulates it and slows the freezing process.  Also the weight forces water to the surface and makes slush.

The West end is still ice from Little island West. There is open water between Little and Long and out beyond Long and Wantry Islands.

It will be below zero tonight just in time for more snow.

I agree, let's get passed the snow and turn off the wind.  :-)

The water levels seem high.  I don't remember the shoreline being this high in the winter.  Does this have an impact on things at all longer term?  More pressure cracks, etc?

Looking to do an over night trip out to Oneida with a few buds. Anyone know where we could crash for the night? Hotels, motels, campgrounds etc.?

Any info is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Ska
