Help keep the Blue Fin Tuna fishery alive
« on: Dec 18, 2009, 02:27 PM »
For those who take part in offshore fishing, (commercial and sport)or would like to someday catch a blue fin tuna, You may or may not know about the possibility for the Atlantic Blue Fin tuna to become listed as an endangered species in May of 2010  This would end fishing for them indefinably and probably permanently.

There is a petition going around to stop this and signatures are needed, if you are willing to sign please look at the link below.

From what I understand, the tuna is in trouble and needs help however US fisherman are not the main cause of harm to tuna rather the Mediterranean fishery which kills tons of immature tuna.  If a band is put on them, this will not stop the illegal fishery that already exists or the demand for them in Asia but rather stop the limited and rather well regulated ( it definitely could still use improvement) fishery for them in the US where most tuna fisherman care deeply about the resource and would like to see the species as well as the sport stick around.

I as well as fellow tuna anglers greatly appreciate any support.

It is a PRIVILEGE to take any animals life not a right and that privilege comes with some responsibility a license to fish and hunt is a license to be a sportsman not a license to kill
