Future advancements or designs that should make it to ice fishing...yes it's a baitcasting reel.  At first I wondered what's with that oversize handle spokes!

Quote
translated:
For clutch operation not causing yarn dandruff

While holding the spool with the thumb, you can rotate the handle with your fingers flying around from the bottom side of the reel seat, and by allowing even ideal clutch ON / OFF and choise winding, you can instantly eliminate yarn dandruff.

In other words...it's a one hand operation.  Imagine this, depressing the clutch bar to drop a lure a little bit.  Then being able to reel up lure while jigging.  All in one hand.

So who said you can't fish two rods at once!  Buy a left handle reel and then a right handle reel.   ;D  Jigging juggle!

I want this to happen and to be specialized as an ultra light reel. I love using my $250 Lews reels when fishing for lakers. It's just like bass fishing, you hold your thumb on the spool to set the hook and i'm not afraid of my drag hanging up on better reels.
Now give me an ultra light (light in weight too) baitcasting setup with a 32" jigging rod and some 3lb floro and I've have to buy 4 new rods. As long as the drag works correctly and she spools inline, I don't see a problem.
To fish or not to fish; there is no question.

I would like a ice fishing shack / hover craft that totally floats. No such thing as unsafe ice anymore. Remember you heard it here first.

Had the same thought about the laser a dozen years ago when i worked for a medical laser manufacturing company.
Decided, at the time, was unsafe due to the fracturing ice from the explosive steam caused when the high intensity heat hits the ice.
Still think about it once in a while.

I've always wonder why don't they make an boot  for ice fishing that can clip/bind on like that on skis/snowboard boots.

That'll be so convenient.  Are the patents so tight that it can't be done?

Tiny wireless transducer in auger shaft with a velcroed lcd on top of auger head or drill for depth check.
Just punch holes and instantly know depth and drill accordingly.

I'm going to get a Shimano Aldebaran soon for ice and fresh water.

But I wouldn't mind a light saber to cut holes...

Before creating a user profile to use an ice fishing message board prospective users should be forced to pass a one question test following a tutorial about the site.

The tutorial and question they need to answer revolves around successfully using search functions on the website where the message board is hosted.

try one of these. The black absorbs the suns rays and smoothed cut off bottom stops ice abrasion if it extends below the ice. Admittedly not much help if no sun.
