I'm starting a pool for how many trucks go through the ice this year. Someone has to post a picture that shows the color and location. We'll keep a running total.

My guess is 7 vehicles this season go through on LML.

Place your bets......

Rule is it must be a total loss.

So what counts as going in? Does just cracking the ice count? Or do 2 wheels have to be wet??? say the entire front end going for a dive??? Or does the whole vehicle have to be submerged???….And…do we award a prize for the dumbest driver of the year???
There are at least 2-3 that break the ice and go in at Regina Beach…..I’m a gonna say 9, that’s right Nine. A solid nine taking a dip in the mountain this year. Nine is a great number. No more, no less, a solid 9….😬👍
Place your bets......

The north end and Big arm Bay will be the first to  have Ice. I tested Dellwood yesterday and it is walkable already.
Will probably try the north end in a week or after the next cold snap.

Also Has anybody tested the ice out in front of Collingwood?  I know a few people have used trucks to pull shacks on at Triple T(Big Arm Bay) I wasn't there myself just heard it from a friend.
Title: Re: Last Mountain Lake 2021-2022
Post by: justdontgetskunked on Dec 11, 2021, 07:51 AM
I can confirm that there have been a few permanent shacks pulled on at Big Arm, as we were there yesterday. Where the shacks are, between the boat launch and the end of the road that goes straight north into the bay, the ice was 10-1/2 - 11". We walked out to an area close to the mouth of the bay and the ice thickness was 8", measured not estimated.

That sounds right the mouth of the bay and out into the lake always takes a bit longer to thicken up. I think I am going to try a walk out at Collingwood tomorrow.

Anywhere between 7 and 11 inches of ice at triple t today and out onto the lake.  Lots of shacks and trucks on the ice.  A bit thin for trucks imo but then again it's not my wife I'd have to explain things too.  Solid 8 hrs of fishing with shawno and skunks all around.

Was at Midway yesterday walked out to about 32 feet. Measured ice at ten inches. Lots of frazzle (broken ice chunks that refroze ) near shore and in some of the bigger  cracks you could punch through with a spud. Fishing was very slow with a couple of jumbos 2 Burbot and a few smallish perch between three people. May try again tomorrow probably a bit shallower this time.

I was at Midway yesterday I measured the ice and it was good enough for me to start driving on with the Durango. 15 to 15.5 inches.  i didn't venture too far, fishing in depths of 29 to 32 feet. There were lots of perch mostly small but managed  to catch 6 jumbos and two eater Walleye plus a couple that were very small. After Christmas the ice should be good to go for most of my fishing spots.

I know they’re not crossing at Glen Harbour as of Sunday. Was out just walking on to the point. Couldn’t see any truck tracks going to the barn. Just sleds and ATV’s. Lots of people out though. How much action another story. Mind you we were there just after lunch. Query anyone? Are they driving on at Kinookimaw(???) or driving down from Regina Beach or Pelican Point? No heaves at The Harbour but at Moors. Any at PP?
Take Care, Enjoy and remember to put the big ones back and any you don’t want as they all serve a purpose!

The fishing was decent before the big snow and cold . I am wondering if Collingwood got the amount of snow we did in Lanigan  and if they did it could be an adventure trying to drive around on the lake.

Hi angler Brian,
I was at Callingwood last weekend just to have a look. There is a ice break from the point going south and then heads west across the lake. There is a path over the break and heading north where people have been driving. There is lots of snow but I had no trouble with the truck. The fresh snow and winds may have altered that since I’ve been there.
Stay safe my friend and leave a couple of fish for me.

My daughter caught this 29” Pike the other day before the snow and winds came. Not much problem getting around in the 4x4 but
I am pretty cautious and didn’t venture too far off. Was a bit north of where you get on and just followed tracks. Don’t know how to read the ice well yet, so better safe than sorry. Yes it went back, of course it went back. I normally catch and release, the odd time I keep  a few perch or a couple eyes
For a fish fry

Hi, we were at Collingwood also last Saturday. Made it out ok, not so lucky getting off. Hung up twice on the many snow drifts. Jeep Grand Cherokee. If it wasn’t for the kindness of strangers helping with a tow, I’d have been in real trouble. Went to the community out there with my shack. Hope this warmer weather this week will lower the snow pack. Fishing is slow…for us anyways. I think I will try to get over to Rowan’s instead. Has anybody been out that way recently? Michael

Went to triple T on saturday. You can get off the trails if you keep if pinned but youre probably gonna hit a 3ft rock hard drift and get buried eventually. I wasnt the only one shoveling myself out of one haha. Otherwise pretty limited to where the trails are even in a lifted 4x4.

Starting to wonder if i need to buy a set of chains for this winter. Doesnt sound like any of the southern lakes are any better, and the north is a complete write off for trucks.

Definitely wouldnt have helped get out saturday. Was trying to break a turn around trail and buried myself in a drift sidways. Ended up being able to spin the truck 90 deg on the spot while roasting the tires and back out. But i might not have been keeping it quite as pinned with chains.

Title: We lost a great MLA!
Post by: Dashboardlight on Jan 22, 2022, 07:05 AM
I’m referring to “Marvin Lee Aday” aka
“Meatloaf”. Saw him in Saskatoon about 20 years ago with my daughter who was about 20 then. It was supposed to be my wife and I going. (My close to 50 years now “Chum” absolutely adored the music and lyrics, not swooning over him necessarily, “Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad.” But “Mom” was guilted into having our daughter go. And this “70 Year Old Determined Pike” wasn’t giving up his ticket. Haven’t listen to much of that “carefree days” music for years. In fact took my User Name for this site from another of Meatloaf’s great songs. “Paradise By The Dashboard Light”. In fact when he sang that song in S’toon, it was with his daughter. I thought that was twisted.
Nostalgia aah….
Anyway just wondering if all who have got on the ice at LML with all this snow could inform all us, “Hooking Junkies” the location and how those trail conditions are?
After all “I’d, (We’d) Do Anything For Love, (Of Fishing)”!
Take care and respect this God given mutual Paradise we all enjoy!

I was at Alice last weekend. You can get on and around some with a 4x4 and by staying in other people's ruts for some of it. There is some clean space but not a lot. Be careful or go in a lifted truck with good tires. My shack is parked there and I don't thing I can move it very far.

Hi gang, just wondering how many have been taking advantage of this nice weather and if anyone has the drive on conditions for Rowans Ravine boat launch or Collingwood areas?
I would think we're still ok for this weekend but was just curious if anyone had hands on info from being out this week, TIA!!!

It’s Ugly!!!

I was out at Pelican Point about 3to 4 weeks ago and just realized I left a rod out there, an Ugly Stick. If anyone found it I’d appreciate getting it back.

Please message me as the reel has sentimental value too!
