I have a bilge pump and a 12v to 110 adapter.  Would that work the same as a pond pump?

FRESH-BAIT:
it'll work, but for how long I don't know. As a bilge pump was never designed to run constantly like a pond pump.

Just wanted to say thanks FRESH-BAIT and tell you that this thread is still alive and well, helping die-hard bait trappers!  I finished my build today and all of these recommendations worked out flawlessly.  Built a shelf for the filter over the top of a cut-down 55 gal poly drum sitting upright.  Cheers and tight lines all.
