Post by: Tomo on Dec 06, 2013, 05:21 PM
Hot off the truck, perfect timing for this years fishing.  Hope to try by next weekend ;D.  Need to put it together.  It will be a good project this weekend.

Woody, that is what I am hoping.  I have a clam 6800 and it is just to cold for me.  The last time I had it out, I had water dripping on me.  Hopefully this one will not do that ::).

You'll be happy I'm sure. Fished out of a 900 last weekend up on Red Lake with temperatures in the -30's and with a regular buddy heater it was nice and toasty inside and most of the time we had it on low fishing in just our sweatshirts. I have the t600 cabin and love it. Thinking about maybe upgrading next year to the xt1200. Honestly fishing in Iowa I don't think you would need to run much of a heater or any heater for that matter to keep it warm. Interested in hearing your review.

Ok, here is the scoop.  I put this thing together last Friday night.  It wasn't to bad to put together with help from a friend.  Sunday we took it outside and set this thing up, just on the ground (Ice was still to thin).  If I remember right it was 20 degrees out and snowing.  I took my little buddy heater out and set it up.  Within 10 minutes you could have taken your sweatshirt off and sat in short sleeve Tshirt.  Any of you guys wanting a picture send me a pm and I will send you a picture.  We tried for an hour and a half to try to figure out how to post pictures on this sight and couldn't figure it out.  Going to hit the Ice this weekend.

Just made it back.  The fishing could have been a lot better.  The Ice was good, clear, hard, and 6.5 inches thick.  The shack was fantastic.  Heater on low it was toasty, finally can fish in comfort.  I also tried out my new sorel's.  Finally found some boots that keep my toes warm.  The fan light I purchase sounds like a vexilar, and the light is to low.  Time to figure out something different for that.  I can't believe a person doesn't see more Otters in Iowa, maybe I'm the only wimp that gets cold ;D ;D.  If I had it to do over, I would choose the same shack again.  Happy fishing ;) .

I was in the middle of 5 clams today. I have two Otters, an uninsulated 900 denier cabin and a T600 wild cottage with insulated roof(brand new). The cabin is easy to keep warm with our weather we have here and the 600 is toasty but stiff as a board and hard to fold and unfold if the fabric is cold.

Tomo a nice addition to that shack is a netting you put on the back wall of the tub. I got mine from Clam. Its nice for holding things that always seem to get lost on the floor. It's a cheap add on but very handy. I have a Cottage and the only complaint I have is that when I'm sitting in the seat and lean over to land a fish or clean my hole out the shack tips forward if I don't have the pole hooked to the bars. My old Clam Pro I could slide the seat back on the supports and it wouldn't tip. But I'd never go back to a Clam now. I just can't be lazy & not put my support pole up.

Finally retired the Shappell DX after 10 years and picked up a Otter XT 650 Lodge.  Beast is huge and I'm looking forward to some great trips this winter!  Took about 3-4 hours to assemble, not too difficult.  It's a quality product but my son's 4 year old Clam has performed admirably for us also....

Man I think those otters are the cats meow. Looks like a winner to me. Especially next to an old clam.  If I can get my cabelas point up a little more I'm going to have to get one
