Is there any place close to dover or portsmouth that sells the show down units I'd like to give one a try this weekend

Bass Pro in Hooksett and Cabela's in Scarborough, Maine probably do. That's not exactly close, obviously, but it may be as close as you're going to get. Once, when I was in Cabela's, they had a bunch of flashers in their aquarium so you could see them in action.
