Mayfield ice
« on: Nov 28, 2005, 12:20 PM »
Here are some pics of the ice on Mayfield lake from today, it was a little foggy during lunch, hope it doesn't get too warm and maybe it will hold up for next week ;D.

Is it completely froze over Robb or open back by the pumphouse?

Slip,

I didn't go down by the pumphouse and couldn't see that far due to the fog :(. Usually once it freezes it stays, as long as we don't get too warm and too much heavy rain >:(. I'm thinking if it gets cold by the weekend maybe Sunday or Monday there is a littl bay that is killer first ice ;D.

Drove by at lunch, it is mostly iced over and with this weather should be ready by the weekend depending on your tolerance for ice thickness ;).

We'll see if not I have a very nice "alpine" pond that's teeming with trout that might just be ready as well.  I would safely say, like before, that by the middle of next week it should be solid.

John...I don't think the "alpine pond" will be ready by this coming weekend.  I am guessing the next weekend if conditions stay as are now.

dwayne my first ice plan is to send bigred out there, we'll stay on shore and think about it.  We'll be yelling from the bank, "HEY BIGRED WALK OVER THERE WHERE THE DEEP WATER IS, IS IT SAFE" :roflmao:

Well guess what! That is what I am doing tommorrow. After I get the flea bag back from the vets, a friend and I are going to hike over there with a spud bar, and take a walk around the lake, and test the ice a bit.

I'll drive by again this morning and see what Mayfield looks like. I might not be fishing though there are 2 more weekends of hunting.

I'll be surprised if you find ice Red.  Most of the larger ponds around my house have not froze over solid yet and I am only 11 miles as the crow flies to where your going.  But the alpine lake is about 600 to 700' higher in elevation than my house.  Hopefully that helps it out some.  Usually does!!

None the less, one of the land owners of one of the farms I hunt has been bugging me to fill his doe tag so there will be no fishing for me this coming weekend.  I am hoping to be on the ice the weekend after this one.  You and Slipbob will have to give me a report.  By the way, if the remote pond isn't working out fish wise, the longer one to the east has a healthy panfish population.

Mayfield is looking good as far as I can see it looks like all the open spots are froze over ;D. I bet there will be some die-hards out there this weekend! Maybe Sunday if it looks good.

If the 'alpine pond' mentioned is/used to be a water source for a town then it was close as of 2 days ago  ;)

mayfield is pretty much locked up except for a small spot by the dam and another by the pumphouse. pretty thin right now , only 1 " around the edges.
yea, I would watch out around the pumphouse there is a littlebit of a current just like around the dam.
Stay on top and hope for the bigger lakes to cap over this week.  ;D
