Sandy Pond Embden Maine
« on: Jan 29, 2021, 07:13 PM »
I fished Sandy pond in Emden last weekend. it was my back-up plan. No sign of activity on Emden. Which by now could have changed. Anyway the  fishing was great. Easy access at the public boat launch thru the yellow gate.Located Off from the Fahi pond Rd.4WD recommended to drive into pond. You can park outside the gate and walk in as well.Plenty of black Ice 8-10" with snow cover. I jet sledded my gear in on foot  No snowmobile or wheeler required. The Brook Trout and Brown trout were biting along with the pickeral, yellow perch and bass. The trout were 12-14" probably stocked this Fall. I used live shiners, nothing special. I fished 1ft to 15ft of water. Most people fished by the launch.I tried the opposite side and did well. Great spot for kids as well. Try it ,you may like it. My plan B worked that weekend anyway. You know, when the bite is on its on. This is my first ever post. Thanks for letting me hang-out here.

Sounds like a good day! Nice job.
Fishing is easy. Catching is the hard part.

Looks like they just put that landing in too. Nice little pond, Embden is good to go we had 8” of ice on that Wednesday. Typical Embden day a few flags one lake trout 18”.

Real nice report.  Lots of detail.  Getting away from the crowd paid off

Is the public access off of Edgar Ave or Marrell Drive?  Or did the state put a new access road in?

I’ve wanted to fish this pond for years, but did not want to put in at the stream as the parking was not conducive.  And the western shore did not have access points.

It's beyond Edgar Ave on the Fahi Pond Road. Keep heading north beyond the small stream that connects the two ponds. You'll see the new boat launch road on your left.

Welcome to IceShanty.

I try to fish Embden every year and hope to soon.  Good to know about steady action on Sandy.   Thanks for the fish report.

Anyone fished this recently? Wonder how to ice and road conditions to the pond are.  I drove down the road to the pond a few weeks ago, it was passable with 4x4, but I wish I brought my snowmobile.  Didn't know if that was still the case. Thanks for any updates.

Haven't been over to Sandy but even after the warm weather I measured 20 inches of ice on EP couple days ago at 136 feet of water.
