No heads up on ice conditions so I checked myself. At couteau bay were I wanted to try to fish only 5 inch white ice. I could see signs of guys fishing but too sketchy for me. Drove to elbow and 7 inch good solid black ice in tuffs.

East of Gardiner Dam, ice is 8 inch today in the bay with a few inch of snow. 50 yards out on the main lake, black ice is 3 to 4 inch without snow cover as shown.

Happy New Years everyone,

I'm heading out from Regina next weekend to try my luck at some Rainbow...I've never winter fished for Rainbow on Diefenbaker. Would the Douglas park area be a good place to try? Any info that your willing to share would be appreciated! Thanks.

A good area to maybe try would be in the Elbow Harbour/Tufts Bay area. Try shallow. The ice is still not safe to travel on with a vehicle. Good luck.

I've seen no one driving on to the lake around Gardiner Dam. Ice was thickest just over 10 inch off the Coteau Bay boat launch earlier this week.

I was at Danielson before sun up yesterday. I fished until 10:30 and had two bites and registered a half dozen marks. I lost a trout at the hole when the line fouled the flasher cord. Not much room for error in six feet of water. I talked to a couple other guys on the walk out.
One of them had three trout on, but none made it out of the hole.

That was just enough to make me want to try again with some different terminal tackle. I need a feed of mid winter smoked trout.

Fake News Church.

Those were captive fish in a pond so small they kept foul hooking themselves. I am after the magnificent wild rainbows of the mighty Lake Diefenbaker that spawn in the crystal clear streams that flow into Coteau Bay.

Those poor starved dugout trout would latch onto your pinky if you dangled it long enough down the hole.

So you are saying....much like the perch in Blackstrap....they would even bite on a tungsten loaded with maggots.

This will be my second year ice fishing at Mistusinne, I use a camera and have never seen a rainbow but I fish 12 to 20 fow, maybe they don't venture that deep?
