Fished from 1:00 - 5:00 yesterday and took home another 22 perch. These were smaller, mostly 9" -10"ers.

Nice catch again reeleyz...it looks like the males might be schooling around the females.

And they're getting ready for just the right time and place to start the party. ;D

Thanks guys.

This high sun definitely softens it up pretty good. I think that shore ice will be shot after a couple of warm days.

We are closing in on 3 months of ice fishing. Can't complain about that.

I couldn't resist one more short trip this afternoon. What awesome weather!

Fished for a few hours and kept 11 perch and got a sunburn.  ;D

The shore ice softened up quite a bit. This week will do it in I think. This was my last trip.

Well wrapped up my ice season as well this evening. Chased the panfish a few times this last week on Oneida. Had to use some lumber to get on and off the ice today lol. What a beautiful evening to be out there! I always hate to see it go but time for spring like weather.

Yo Guys and Gals,

Old Boggey thought he would give Oneida a last try before all the ice went out. I accessed at Sylvan Beach parking lot. Me along with about 7 other stalwarts. I might mention, but not advocate , there were 2 snow mobiles out there as well. Actually , after a long walk out (pail sitter), I cut my first hole. My nils measures 42 inches from the tip of my auger to the first horizontal on my crank arm. I used all of that to break through the Swiss cheese ice mat. I hesitate to use the word ice as it was alternating layers of ice over snow over mush etc. After the first hole I started to use the holes the ice fishermen had made the previous day, Much easier on the old shoulder.

Now I'm not going to say I was "snake bit" but dang well close. After a hard morning of moving and cutting in someone elses holes , I managed 3 keepers and threw 3 dinks back in the holes. Couldn't drag up a thing with the jigs. The only thing They were biting on were the 2 dead sticks I hung out with fat heads.

Did I mention I had a brief senior moment when first walking out on the ice. One of the 2 snowmobilers who came out, passed me and relayed to me , In my haste to get out on the ice , I had left the rear door open on my truck? I asked him if he had closed it for me. He answered no. "I don't mess with other peoples property" . Actually, quite prudent from my prospective. I thanked him for telling me and I dropped my pail and auger and made the long trek back in to the parking lot to close the door. When I arrived back at the parking lot. I noticed the door was closed . Somewhat perplexed, I was left with the impression he was playing with me or more likely, some other good Samaritan had closed the door for me. I only disclose this as a cautionary tale. The older you get, the more things like this happen. If you are not there yet, but getting closer, you would do well to make little mental "check list" before loading up the truck or leaving the truck to venture out on the ice.

Before I forget  ;D ;D this is my last trip out on hard water at Oneida this year. I will keep an eye on Goose bay and Chippewa to see if they get through the warm temps and rain today. My next foray just might be with the long poles at Kring's for "Ice Out". In any event. I hope you all had a good season on the ice. Stay safe and hope to see you all over on MFF.
