Shallow water usually has slot  to  do with the black dots .... However I have never seen them.in crappies .....
Not exactly true there is black spot disease which isn’t Harmful to the fish (humans I don’t know) but all fish can get it crappies included it’s from kingfishers poop and biomagnification shallow weedy lakes can get worms and parasites in the fish fillets tho can’t see them until you cut the fish usually and the intestines or fillets are filled

I may try one this spring. Here in Fl. The Drum are spitting images of them, maybe not looked upon as favorably as a Pompano but above a Whiting.
Black drum they are little different but they are good eating just watch for worms in those also lol

By the way.... I was thinking about a fish I’d add to my list today. I’d have to add perch,  again to that list!!😁

I think I can help with your supply, give it about a week.

BTW, I got the boat out Sunday, spent an hour freeing up the launch to get the boat in.

Back in the old days my son brought a buddy (Tony) to camp with us for some fishing. Well Tony caught a sheep and wanted to keep it and eat it. So I showed the boys how to fillet it and mom did the cooking honors. When that fish hit the hot oil it curled right up, thought it was going to jump out of the pan! Anyway the kids mentality was that they caught it and where damn well going to eat it. The boys actually enjoyed it and cleaned their plates. They did say it was a little rubbery. Long story short Tony loved everything about fishing and I wish I could of taken him out more often. Tony ended up getting messed up with heroin and died of an overdose. Man that kid loved to fish, what a waste. This was years ago, and I'm glad to say my son is now a college grad, business owner and an avid fly fisherman.

Last few days on my way home through Brewerton  I’ve seen anglers in shacks fishing in the channel, not too far from open water.😳😳😳😳

Weird to see but fish curl when they hit the pan cuz the fish is actually too fresh rigimortis or nerves still acting it is if you wait ten hours give or take no curling of the fillet

That fish was only an hour out of water, you're probably right! Just like eating venison that hasn't been cooled. No Bueno.

While looking at the Chapman Park web cam I notice it looked like part of the hand rail on the peer was missing.  Ran the time laps and see they took most of the railing off.  What are they doing to the peer?  Does anyone know?

They take them off so the ice doesn't destroy them. Once ice is gone they go back up.

If that is the purpose for removing part of the hand rail, then why not remove all of it to aviod damage. There is still part of the rail remaining so the ice would damage that.  I am skeptical about the purpose being to aviod damage from the ice. ???

Maybe some illegal scrappers took them?

I did not appear to be scrappers, the people looked like county employees and they did during daylight not in the dead of night. Looked like they had a Bobcat Backhoe or similar piece of equipment.

If you sit around all day and do nothing your a bum, but if you sit in a boat all day or in a shanty and do nothing they call you a fisherman
