And yes, the top end drills WILL turn that 10" auger but I wouldn't necessarily rely on it as my primary source for a 10" hole.  The ION powerhead is impressive.

Agreed ..had mine out last two days in 7-8 inches of ice ..the 5ah battery paired with a Milwaukee 2704-22 had some binding and/or stopping issues right before breakthrough. Next day I tried my new 2803-22 w/9ah ..at first and second holes seem to have an issue after that it was fine . Note this is some of the hardest/ black ice I have seen in several years as the temperatures have been close to 0 or below for several nights .

32 degrees base layers: This brand is sold on line and at Costco from time to time. I just got some of their medium and heavyweight thermal tops, and they are great! The heavy is a nice fleece material, and medium is a waffle knit. The lightweight ones are too thin for me ice fishing. $7-9 each piece, with free shipping over $24 with code SLICK24

Description said ultralight so I bit. At $143 (before taxes) seems a good deal seeing it list for $229.
Arrives next week so we’ll see if it really is a deal.

Up to 60% off Otter Vortex Hub series at Reeds and free shipping

https://www.reedssports.com/enews-otter-hub-sale?utm_campaign=764179_01-17-2022%20-%20Otter&utm_medium=email&utm_source=REEDS%20FAMILY%20OUTDOOR%20OUTFITTERS&dm_i=4WGP,GDN7,5UQPMU,1R25X,1

I think it's up to $60 off, not 60% off.

Reeds is a good group of people, and I'm not affiliated with them at all.

Forgive the deviation to summer, but I thought some folks might want to try catching crayfish in open water.

Also on the fringe of ice fishing, but a lot of people have a shanty or wheelhouse and need to charge batteries. Not a Honda, but about the cheapest inverter generator I have seen. $160

That's weird that they don't recommend for use over 3000' I wonder if you can tune it so it will work?

I didn't even know I needed a generator, but I ordered one! Will work better for overnight trips than the harbor freight tailgater generator I bought for that purpose.

I have one of those Harbor Freight 800-900 KW generators that works fine except it is a 2 cycle, mix the oil with the gas unit and if you ever use ethanol gas in it you will be sorry. The one above is a 4 cycle but pretty much the same carbureted system so never, ever use ethanol gas in it. 800-1,000 KWs will run a lot of small stuff like lights, chargers and maybe a coffee maker so just try to do some math. Eight 100 watt light bulbs will need an 800 watt genset. A coffee maker with a 1200 watt heating pad might be too much for it and a tool like a circular saw might run on it but that is not a good idea because not enough juice from the generator is really hard on an electric motor. I see guys on work sites all the time running big saws on small generators but what they are doing wrong is running the power through cheap 100 foot extension cords that have way too much loss from resistance. Plug anything in directly into the generators plug and forget the long cords.
If I agreed with you we would both be wrong!

I had a sportsman 3400W model that said the same thing- I ran it up to 7000 feet and never noticed anything, but I did not put too many hours on it. I would suspect that like all engines, peak HP goes down, so it might have struggled to put out rated power continuously, but I never noticed a problem.

Like Gamalot said, this is not a high power generator, but if you are charging batteries, most chargers take 100-200W, so a larger generator just uses more gas providing a fraction of it's capacity. a 1k generator is also a lot easier to tote around.

Working with Gens from 1kw to 500kw regularly at work for 30 years its a good practice to consider a de-rated output based on the altitude.  Even the manufacturers I work with haven't provided an exact formula but typically 3% per 1000' above sea level has been adequate padding.  Not just gens but compressors and anything powered by a gas/diesel engine.

It's the carburetor that causes issue in higher elevations. I'm sure these generators have jets for working fine from sea level up to around 3,000 feet above. As the air gets thinner the higher you go the jets have to be bigger to allow more oxygen in. Just for ha has, we humans don't perform all that well in the higher elevations because there is less O2 up there. I would bet if you could find bigger jets for those carbs they will do fine at higher levels.
If I agreed with you we would both be wrong!
