Extension Question
« on: Mar 15, 2013, 09:51 AM »
Hey guys: What do you use to keep your extension from locking up inside the auger insert? I've got a Jiffy STX and as soon as I drill one hole, the extension gets wet and freezes solid. I tried sanding the extension shaft down to make the fit a bit looser, took the paint off of the inside of the auger tube, tried some WD40, all no joy.

Your thoughts?

I always put a dab of grease from the grease gun on my finger and lightly coat the shaft. I have never had mine stick.

Bob
I just use some grease as well.
I grease the output shaft on the motor and inside the auger bit.
I don't bother with the extension on my Strikemaster so as not to get grease all over the place when not using it.
I've never had issues with it freezing on but have had rust issues with the auger bit to output shaft connection if I don't grease it.
At the end of the season I do my greasing maintenance and it lasts the whole season usually.

I have a tub of wheel bearing grease for my automotive/trailer needs and just use a bit of that to keep things working properly.

I had thought about grease as well, but figured it would freeze up on me. That's why I went with the WD40 as I figured it would stay a bit more liquid.

Thanks guys!!!
