Finally Got Out After 3 Weeks of Hibernation
« on: Feb 05, 2011, 08:54 PM »
Well after 3 weeks of frigid temps I finally got back out to the lake we slayed all of thoses pike on back on January 9th. We started off where we hammered them last time and managed 2 hammer handles in an hour and a half, so we left for greener pastures. We managed a grand total of 0 fish there in about 1/2 hour of fishing. We tried 2 more spots before finally finding the fish at spot number 5.    ::)
We started hitting fish right away but again they were small, like this fellow and smaller.

Soon the big gals started showing up and saved the day. I had a couple of baits stolen off set lines and had one fish break off on a tipup. The biggest fish we got on a set line today was about 6 or 7 pounds. The bigguns all came jigging airplane jigs tipped with 1/2 a cisco.

Tomorrow it's off to find a few troots.     ;)2

What other species so you have in the lake and do you target them icefishing?
I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

There are whitefish and walleye in this lake as well as pike.
Haven't fished them in there yet.

I'm not a fan of pike myself but lots of people eat them.
They taste the best when caught through the ice.

Just wondering if u guys fish the east arm of great slave for lakers? i guide over at Frontier Fishing Lodge during the summer and was curious if guys do any fishing near Lutsel'ke and if u guys catch?  a few buddies from Lutsel'ke say it can be good icefishing later on. i've fished the last 6 summers on the east arm and would LOVE to fish it once in the winter! i have so many places i'd love to try reefs, islands points etc. just wondering if anyone had any info, thanks.

Check out the video on bottom of Drifters posts as they are from the east arm of Slave ;) Here you go:

We fished by Lutsel'ke except on the north shore and not south. Was pretty quiet out there.
