General Ice Fishing Chit Chat / suffix tip up line.
« Last post by ont_angler on Sep 23, 2021, 08:24 AM »
Hey y'all,

Any of you guys who have used this suffix tip up line, which one do you prefer? The coated version or regular version?

Coated line is roughly 6$ more per spool which is why I am asking.

The major company/brands of marine electronics are getting/providing  lithium batteries for their upper end units as well a selling the battery out right. So I expect the the other lithium battery companies to be completive with each other with prices and new offerings . My only suggestion is get a lithium charger for your battery ..Vexilar kinda stubbed their toe by having a competitive priced lithium battery last season ..but no dedicated charger ..they stated you could use their standard SLA charger ...kind of mixed thats not the industry norm recommendation  . I see this season Vexilar offers some new options for battery as well as a lithium charger.

“My only purchase through Amped was a bust, but their customer service was great.”

^^^what did you purchase, and what was the problem? (Just curious!)

Their knockoff lithium-ion Milwuakee drill batteries they sold last year. They purchased them from china, tried to claim that they were built in the same factories as the OEM batteries, and rebranded them as their own for double the price. I got the dreaded red blinking light on the first charge and as you can see, they no longer sell them. So by 'great customer service' I mean that they gave me a refund AND took the battery back, the chinese companies give you a refund but your stuck with a garbage battery  ;)

Morning all, 53° and cloudy here. High for today is supppsed to be around 60. It only got down to 50 overnight, so not quite as cool as predicted. Low forecast for tonight is 45, so maybe we'll finally clip below 50. We ended up with about an inch of rain over a 36 hour period. We could have used quite a bit more, but it's a lot better than nothing. Still looking like fishing is done until ice time, though, because that only brought the river up a tick.

Parts are supposed to be here Friday, so hopefully he car will be road ready again on Saturday.

General Ice Fishing Chit Chat / Re: Any new products that look useful?

New products that look useful? Well...none that I have purchased per se. But I am improving on my minnow bucket. I had an old chest cooler that wasn't much good at holding ice when it got hot out so I thought...hmmmm. So I purchased an aeration system ( a 12v. Super Saver from Marine Metals)., a 30 amp lithium (Amped Outdoors) and a 110v > 12v converter (Amazon). I usually do a couple of ice fishing trips a year with the fellas and several 2-3 day trips to the Detroit River jigging Walleye in the spring. All of which requires a LOT of minnows. Now instead of multiple trips to the bait shop we can dip into the "tank" and take what's needed for the day. The battery will last between 12 and 15 hours between charges (for the commute) and then plug it in when I've reached my destination. Just refresh the water once in awhile. I have yet to assemble it, but pics to follow when I do.
As for making/painting jigs and lures...I purchase ice jigs and flies. Just not worth the time and effort for me. I do however paint most of my Walleye ( 1oz. ball) jigs. I use enamel model paint with a clear coat. They just take such a beating at the bottom of the river that it is easier and cheaper to just touch them up each time out. Done. I also have a local guy who paints my crankbaits at half the cost of buying them.

One more. I made my own Jaw Jacker/ Automatic Fisherman this year. Made 2 at half the cost of 1 if purchased...
