Laughing at myself as I venture through the forums..
Just an add-on to the last remark I made on this topic.
Lack of control up-date, 4 rods bought and did not even make it out of the house never mind the ice = 28 ice rods or and traps...

Tricking fish to bite something with hooks attached to it is way fun.  ;)

In the end most rigs becomes nothing more than a weight, a hook, and some bait.  I also like to jig in a bucket or in the fish tank to see how the rig works.  Helps to let me know how little motions gets the lure to quiver, bobble, dart, flutter, sink, etc.,...  Also to figure which rod imparts the best action on the rig.  Or even sometimes just how the lure free falls and flutters or wobble will give me ideas or clues if a fish will bite it.

In the end, this is what all trial lures must beat.

(Image removed from quote.)

The simple weight plus spinner blade rig.  Although the weight is from Hildebrandt's Thingamabob rig.

When someone sees a commercial bait and goes "hmmm, why did I not think of that. Well you know what someone did, be it Rapala, Eagle Claw or just a guy/gal thinking what can I do that is different.

I like to airbrush paint, alter, powder coat, tie flies, build musky bait and dream........ what else is life for

due to the lack of ice last year, I got carried away with building ice rods due to no ice. How many does a guy need?

I think it all has to do with 2 things.
1) lack of control and 2) what we enjoy. Answer one at a time if you wish.....
I lack control, not sure let's see.... 24 ice rods, 5 ice tents, and 4 ice sleds let's not go any deeper if you get my drift.
2) I do not mind people but I do prefer alone time. I will take family but in all these years of fishing on ice or open water, you can count my ventures with other people other than my grandkids on 2 feet and no more than one hand. Me the fish and alone time ='s splendor........

Good evening ,44 with clear sky as i type it has dropped below freezing the past two nights causing puddles left from Saturday's rain to freeze and become ice patches here at my complex. Once the sun has risen and temperatures start warming up the ice melts.
Ice Wanderer i was wondering if you received a similar snow fall total to Hunts2long. Smart of you to take this year off from snow plowing as you rehab your shoulder.
Hunts2longif the season is over better luck wished for you and your teammates next season to finish in first place. hopefully you and others are having fun each Sunday evening during the season.
Wallyworld glad you made it home safely. Thank you for answering my question about the hockey game.
Eddie best wished to your son's on their next trip to Salmon river. once you resume garden preparations may all of us in new York only see rain from storm systems and it be on the light side.
Old Goat sorry to hear the Badgers Men's Basketball and Women's hockey team are out of the NCAA tournament's.
Drifter did you get to your cabin this past weekend. if so may you have found everything in good shape and have no items/chores to add to this year's project list.
IFF may you get a period of calm and sunny weather so you can get out fishing. best wished to Linda on her trip home from Nashville.
Fish/hunt4ever may someone in an executive position read your comments in addition to the data reports and try some of your suggestions to prevent future problems.

Have a good night. best to all fishing this week.
  Steve

If you are not gonna wear them to the lake, the best and cheapest are hex head sheet metal screws. I have used these for years when it gets "smooth icey". Work like a champ and cheap. Get the shortest you can find. I have never had a leak. But if you are worried a drop of silicone would stop that. .  Steve

Don't have one of these, only the older octane 9ah? Batteries.  Good deal it seems?

I have one- seems to drive an Octane just as well as the 9AH. I got mine on a "Home Depot Hack" deal, and paid just over $80. $10/AH is the best price for Ridgid or Ryobi batteries, IMHO

Hi all,

we have been making ice the last couple weeks, not too far off 'normal' ice thickness for this time of year despite the insanely mild winter, should be a normal(ish) ice out, maybe a bit earlier than the 1st week of May.

Took advantage of the extra daylight hours and headed out on Wabigoon yesterday for an hour , supper was great!
