OK, I admit right off the bat, I'm bragging about my kid, sorry in advance! The story behind this pic is that every year for Christmas, my wife prefers some sort of trip to just get away, rather than on some physical gift. This year we decided on a 3 day trip to Montague, MI in a resort that sits on White Lake. My 10 yr. old son has just fallen in love with ice fishing the last couple of years so he immediately begged to take all the ice gear with. Being that we were going in my wifes van, we let him bring one small sled, a hand auger, and just a little ice gear. I admit, that I've grown to be a bit of a softcore ice fisherman over the years. If I can't have my shanty, heater, power auger, atv etc. then I'm not happy. Well the kid would not be denied despite the weather being pretty tough, so I found myself out on the ice trying to outlast him...LOL. Despite the cold and snow, he just fished and fished. I finally took this pic of him, dialed in, ignoring the elements.

Better yet, find one of those places that puts photos on canvas. It'll be something he could have for years. They come out great. Got my dad one a couple of years ago of him with his first elk he shot. He loved it.

Thanks for all the kind words, I thought it was a pretty cool pic as well. Although we didn't catch very big gils, we did catch a ton. It's funny how kids take to certain things. I have a 15 yr. old daughter as well and she loves to hunt and fish too. Although they love both, Emily is a hunter that fishes, Tommy is a fisherman that hunts. I know that sounds goofy, but there is a difference. My daughter will sit on stand for hours on end waiting for the right deer. I her four years of hunt, she has 2 nice 8 pts and this fall she took a big 10 pt. She's never missed a shot. When it comes to fishing, if the bite isn't great, she loses patience pretty quickly.
Tommy has hunted deer the past two years and has missed an 8 pt both years and he gets way more figety than his sister ever did. He enjoys it, but doesn't seem to be so fanatical as he is about fishing. I guess as long as they both enjoy the outdoors and love to be outside, then I'm OK with whatever they do.

Great pic. and you should be proud of that boy. I am. Way to go dad.

I would say the parents are to blame. This will never end.
I fished as a kid always loved it. My Dad did not fish so I was on my own but he never discouraged me ether.
Took my kids out when they where small, they fished I helped, now they are my best fishing partners worth every moment.
My kids got in to sports at school and stayed out of trouble. I think due to both out doors and the team thing.
WTG !!! Like I said this will never end.
