Nothing is even close to freezing in the Belle Fourche area. Wife and I went to the Ice Show in Sioux Falls last weekend. It was my first time going there. Wow! I highly recommend making the trip. Tons of booths there, and speakers were giving seminars the whole day. Really neat deal.
Anyway, Oyler was there working for Clam and I asked him when he thought he'd be on ice. He laughed and just said that he doesn't plan on winterizing his boat any time soon. And then he said he thought Mother Nature hates him. Lol. For now we just have to keep our fingers crossed

I heard from a friend that Deerfield is starting to have thin ice at the inlet. Prolly freezes overnight and disappears during the day. Either way, that's how it stages up so it is starting in the Hills. I know for the next 36 hrs it will be at freezing or below so that should really get things going.

Glad you got to go to the ice show, and talk to Oyler. You just know he's gonna find some early ice and post a pic on his FB page, and people are gonna ask him where it is and he won't say where. That's the kind of fun-loving doosh he is. haha. JK Oyler. Hope you actually do that.

Honestly, I don't think it will be very safe. But if you're going up there to check it out maybe you could give us a report. This past weekend was 70 degrees. Sheesh. You could try the back of Stockade and see if it has ice. It usually has good safe ice shortly after T-Day.

I see ice. Dad read -20 one night on the thermometer and heard reports of some one already getting his tip wet , a brave soul could ice fish tommorrow. Was walking on water one week ago right next to Canada too.

You have to host your pics on Shutterfly or some other picture site. Then upload them to iceshanty with the url provided by the host. Its a hassle, as the open water site I hang out on uploads right from your pc. But once you get the process down its do-able. There are instructions on the main page.

I use tinypic.com Just upload your pic, choose what size to make it (I use the message board size), copy the link and place it into the post. Just make sure you choose the 'IMG' tag with the square brackets around them [ ].

Yeah, found a few moth reports and info on 6-7" around Webster, on top of a marginal 3-4" of ice.

Looks like I'll be canceling, as much as I hate to.

Yeah, Brookings area is all covered in 6" of dense snow and temps rising up to mid 40-'s. Interesting you got enough ice to fish on Lake Mitchell already, which Mitchell lake is this? Nice fish though! Can't wait to get out!

Up in the Northeast, the 10-day is actually the best scenario.... Get rid of the snow, open up the ice and start over~! Otherwise we are going to be fighting it all year long!
