Title: How early do you set your first trap?
Post by: jimmyrig on Feb 22, 2013, 03:39 PM

How early are you guys typically setting your first trap? I know with me, it depends on if the kids are coming or not........  They tend to slow me down a bit in the am. If i was to guess, my average would be about 7. I am shooting for 6:30 tommorow.

Me too.... I usually get to the lake around 7:00 then another 20-30 minutes before the traps go in. It's just so much harder to get up early in the winter when your all warm in bed and it's freezing outside. Summer time I'm always launching the boat in the dark. Guess I need to work on my winter fishing dedication lol.

:o :o  As I get older I've found that I get just as many fish at the lunchtime bite and the 3:00 - 5:00 PM bite

   The biggest trout that I have ever taken came between 11:00 and 1:00 PM.    They get hungry that long after the sunrise bite!!    Well that's my excuse while I enjoy my extra blueberry bagel at 7:00 AM!!

I usually start about 2200 or 2300 so can be sure the get that hot midnight bite.  Otherwise as early as I can go.  Which is anytime between 0400 and 1400.  I go when I can as early as I can for as long as I can, but I don't do the can can.

Took my grand  daughter jiffing for perch at 1:00 PM this afternoon and we caught two dozen nice perch, a 2 lbs largemouth and two OK northern pike!!   We had flapjacks for breakfast at 7:30 and Mac and cheese for lunch at 12:00.
