cassadaga lake is also fairly slushy    and very frustrating this year. I havent made it to bear lake yet but from the reports I have been hearing I think the thick ice and no slush on chautauqua are reason enough to visit there.

The ice is really good but the snow really sucks.

Empty:

Nothing going on here but the rent!  You are right about the absence of fishermen on Bear Lake. A tough year.

I got 3 dozen nice ones the other day, calico, couldn't keep em off the hooks, in my pond next to the house, only ice fishing I did all year. Whats going on in the big pond by your house??

 Yo Emptyhanded,

You speaking of them things they call "Ringbacks" on Erie?

Sounds like things aren't doing real well on B. Lake this year. Maybe we should all bring our gear  over to Bob's pond. ;D

JD:
Yes, terrible is the word for it. Only  saw one fisherman out ther. Some old snowmobile tracks, which looked quite sunken in the slush too. We had rain/slush combo Sunday along with warmer temp initially, which will further the slush on of the ice!
I for one am not going to risk it, or wade thru slush over ice which I don't have a clue anymore to its' thickness!

hmmmm... so the calicoes have gone untouched so far?   cassadaga has been a flop this year maybe I should go and check the thickness under all the slush...

i will be down wed or thurs   whichever i can sneak out of work earlier   it has got to be solid it is and has been and will be very cold I have alot of leftover bait from this weekend  funny considering i only bought a little... thanks mitchells bob I will give you a call before i go and maybe you will want to get out also. Marsh i will give an accuarte report when i have one but i would have to say it is fine to fish it is very cold and windy all the snow should be off and the slush should be frozen. I know the ice will be plenty thick    not 100% sure how sloppy  though.

Bigfish:

I checked the lake this afternoon and note ed it appeared to be set to go for tomorrow. Slush didn't seem to be a problem, plus the night is cooling down quickly which will firm up any water gained today. Gor up to 48 degrees here this afternoon!. Try to fish out in the Calico grounds near the point, across the lake!
No bait here, so bring your own! :)

I am sorry i did not make it down that way this week like i said... however past experiences on bear lake would lead me to believe you would do better on erie. I heard an interesting report on cassadaga lake today and am going to give it a go tommorrow if i do not do well i will at least catch a buzz being close to home. I will try bear before the ice is gone can be very frustrating though...there are huge calicoes i have seen   tough fishing

Watch yourself on lake Erie tomorrow. It is windy as the dickens here all evening and will continute thru Saturdaay. Will be may to windy for unprotected lake Erie fishing! Even Bear lake, will be hit by heavy winds. Just not worth it! :-\

I've been meaning to try bear for the past couple years despite the mostly poor fishing reports. Never got there though.

Me as well. I have been camping on bear lake since i was very young and since i got into ice fishing ive always wanted to try it. Its a bit of a drive for what seems like sub par fishing but i still want to try it.
