Bob,

It was my group -- ice was very spotty 2-6 inches in spots --way to much snow on it. We could not get to my walleye numbers -- by the way took a good dip in Chataugua this morning. Didn't you see my yellow coat.
Does not play well with others

Oh , so you cheated and took the machines out ??

It is really snowing hard here now! Snow is falling fater than 4 in per hour with low vis, starting to pile up again. Snow will screw things up here again this year, as Chautauqua, YUK, a swim on the 28th day of Jan.

Wonder if you got anything but wet for the effort? I wanted to check my pond, but am having a hard time finding certified minnows here at Bear Lake LOL

emptyhanded:  do you do well on walleyes thru the ice at bear?    I have never targeted them there i caught half a dozen in my boat in as many trips this summer    any tips on this particular body of water ?    If I can find a willing fishing partner i may make an evening trip sometime this week .  I usually fish off the camp i look for 18-25 fow   and the action on the calicos can be frustrating or non-stop never in between . I probably would have fished bear instead of cassadaga today if i was sure i could even make it over the hill. It is snowing something fierce here now.  Where on chautauqua did you take a dip today?

Got a new foot of snow since ya left, good ya did while the visibility was good, and the roads better.YUK :-\

This season reminds me of the last few, cold temps, ice forming to a safe level, then major snows to fishish the fishing quickly! Fishing was always good around the California Ranch site, even south basin! I used to live that way, and it was my second home away from home!

I have been waiting for BOB to give me some hot walleye spots on that lake. I fell thru around dewitville bay

and bob no fish today at all

Greetings to all the fine fisherman of Bear Lake !!

First time on the Shanty this year and stopped here first to say hello to BL Bob and all the rest of you diehards that walk the slippery paths to your favorite holes in the ice ;D
Hows the conditions over there and are the calicoes coming to the top of the ice yet?
Looking foward to any and all responses.

  Sincerely,

Nothing going on here people are still questioning the security of the ice, and the impact of the heavy snow on this weak ice. Been lots of slush ontop of tin ice to date. With all this Zero weather up here at night, ice should be safe now! ?? I haven't been on the ice yet!

JD:

Checked Bear Lake today, and of course no one was out. There are no recent signs of anyone having been out either. Wind and snows have been constant up here. Right now it is anyones guess as to how safe the ice is. I will say that the shore ice looks great, thats all I can tell you. Keep ya posted as things happen!

Bear Lake is empty, no fishermen at all today!. Shore ice looks good, still cold and blowing with occasional sunshine!. Looks like someone walked out off the road for a bit, then track were covered. Sunday should bring out the best in all of us, due to better weather, less wind blowing! ;D

Hunter,
It's great to be back! My son fried my computer about three weeks ago and I just now got a new one set up.
First thing I did was get on ISS!  It;s great to see all the familiar names still out there posting and giving up that valualable info.  I'm heading up to M. Springs tonite for my first trip on the lake this year. I've been working 70 hr. weeks at the new casino  in Sal. since May and haven't had time to do hardly anything all year. But even that can't keep me off the ice now that we actually have some! ;D
Will let everyone know if anything good comes thru the hole. By the way, do you still got those straps for the clam?
          Later,
                  JD

checked Bear Lake today( Sunday AM ) There were two groups of 7 people out on the ice, not too far out, and definitely fishing in areas which hold nothing to speak of!

The path they cut revealed minimal snow, then clear ice way out. People have to cheat across the lake to the far point to get into the winter calico on this lake, or towards Muskie point in 16FOW!

May walk out on ice for thickness check and check on catches today! ;D

Went out on Bear Lake this afternoon, thre were a total of 11 people out there, all fishing out of the  known Calico zones., probably due to the fact that there is a considerable amount of unsafe ice out on this lake.

Lots of areas of heavy snow, with hidden slush/water on top of what I saw was only 2-3inches of crystal clear ice. Terrible walking for the most part, with intermittent smooth ice. A real mess for sure. The closer you got to the Point, the worse it got!Sunk up to the knees in some areas!

A group of several huts off Muskie point were not checked, so I have no idea what they had to walk thru to get there!

Doesn't look good for the near future on this lake! >:(

Bear Lake continues to be snow covered and dangerous. We got another 12 inches or so up here at Bear Lake yesterday and water is still on top of very little ice Ice  ony 2" thick under slush, then snow, out towards the point where the Calicos mostly are. YUK; had we not gotten any heavy snowfalls, things would habe been super! >:(

No fun at all standing in slush, while trying to fish, or even set up the hut! Oh! and that awful walk out and in thru the slop YUK!
