Yea i'm thinking along the lines of the lx-5. I just feel like there's too much that can go wrong with an all digital screen in freezing cold temps. I may be completely wrong but through my research I like everything about the lx-5

I've had a Vexilar FL18 for 5 years and a Marcum LX5 for 1 1/2 years. No problems with the Vexilar but I had some problems last ice fishing season with the Marcum. They replaced the motor the first time and it still wasn't working properly. They then sent me a new transducer to try and it seems to be working good now. I tried it out during the fall on a few fishing trips from a boat and it worked good so hopefully I will have a problem-free season! When I was able to use it, it worked great. As I do a lot of "hole hopping" I like the "arm" on the LX5 that holds the transducer in place vs the float on the Vexilar. Plus, with the LX5, I only need to have the transducer a few inches under water rather than having the transducer below the bottom of the ice. So it's easier to pull up a few inches of cable rather than a few feet (if the ice is 24") when I move around or am fighting a fish.

What's up, Trent (and the rest of the gang).  Just ordered the Lowrance Elite 5x Ice Machine (I think it is designated) because of my past positive experiences with the Ice Machine x67 and it's precursors.  The new one is pretty slick-looking and has side-scan technology...  It's been a few years since I've had a good fishfinder, and I have definitely missed fishing with one.  I'll update after my first couple trips out with it this year.

Well, went out yesterday as the ice finally thickened up.  The 4x elite worked great!  I was watching fish swim by and whack my jig all day, but this dude came in from the side so fast I never saw him until the fight was already on!

Thanks, Trent.  No, but we think he was about twelve lbs...  A really good fighter, on light tackle.  Just released him after snapping some photos.  Good to have something that pulls on again.

Nice fish.  I use showdown.  I enjoy the simplicity of the lcd screen.

I have a humminbird 35. My dad has a $500 marcum.  I don't really see a difference, except that my battery lasts a lot longer. I've fished small perch in rock lake, stockers in granite, burbot and Lakers on the gorge, and walleyes on Boysen without an issue.
