Road worthy atv cover to trailer with?
« on: Jan 27, 2013, 11:38 PM »
I have an open trailer. Does have the sides but nothing that will stop the road salt / spray from hitting my atv while transporting.

Anyone recommend a good trailer-able cover that will last?

ive been using the brushes that attach to the back of the truck to keep the spray/Rocks down with good results you could use the mud flap ones though or put a piece of plywood on the front if you cannt find a cover that will work

I had good luck with a canvas tarp.  I used one for several years on my open snowmobile trailer. It held up to highway towing with no problem.  If you can find one that has a plastic liner then that is the best, since canvas is not waterproof.  The road salt keeps it from freezing during trips, but if its siting in the yard it can be a hassle during heavy snow melt/freeze.

I've been having the same problem over the last 4 years. I carry my wheeler in the back of my pickup and spend more time cleaning it after each trip than I do using it. I have a nice cover for it that I use in the summer months, but it won't fit with all my ice fishing attachments (auger mount, rear box, bucket holder). I tried a plastic tarp once and a painters tarp once and ended up stopping multiple times because the thing was shredding in the wind. It probably would be worth having a custom canvas cover made for it, but I think that it would cost me an arm and a leg. I was thinking about getting a open trailer for the quad, shanty and other stuff, but I have to come up with a quad cover first. I'm sure the spray will be worst with a trailer. Any ideas would be welcome and much appreciated.

Try contacting the manufaturer of your machine, they should carry them or give you info on who does or you can try denniskirk.com  or sportsmansguide.com.

I might just get some canvas and have the wifey sew something up. I also thought of the attachments and stuff.

Boxcar - I was actually thinking along those lines. The way I figure I could store all my ice fishing stuff in there and have it with me no matter what the conditions are.

I love my enclosed trailer, it's a 6 x 10.  If I remove the ATV I can sleep in it.  To do over I would have gotten the 14 foot with the single axle.  Still, a world apart from my open two place I used to have.

Great set up Boxcar

Is that a drop down or do you use sleeves?
I would love to see some more pictures of the inside and rear view if you have them.

My wife would be pissed if she knew what I was looking at now. Oh well they said when we got married 30 years ago for better or for worse.
