got a text earlier that a 50+ pike was caught on the great sac any trueth with pictures to show? hoping it is true but who knows with social media any more
-
here's the pic. don't think the lake has that much snow on it. just my opinion.(http://i1262.photobucket.com/albums/ii603/o2rmk800/tn_zps017154e9.jpg)the background doesn't seem to go with the background of the res. no camps/houses in there. again just my opinion
From the sacandaga challenge thread:

that thing is huge
-
what a fish...
-
wow nice catch
-
Regardles of where it was caught, that is an incredible fish. Was it released?
-
WOW... it's just that it's so beautiful! :'(
-
Hope I'm wrong but that pic has a photoshop look to it. It's an impressive fish and looks like pic of one caught in Europe a couple years ago. In the picture it looks like it would be 6' long in perspective and they called it 50+" because no one would believe 72". Just my 2 cents.
-
No one has been able to confirm that it has come from the Resevoir yet from what I heard.
-
what is the bigest pike to date that came from sacandoga?
-
State record came from there:
Northern Pike
46 lb. 2 oz.
n/a
Peter Dubuc
Heddon Flaptail
Great Sacandaga Lake, Fulton Co.
9/15/40

i'd say you were hoaked im not a pro on the sac yet but i know it fairly well to say that isn't the sac just a hoaks sorry
-
That's a sweet fish but could someone hold it like that kneeled down that's probably 40-50 lbs I know I couldn't hold it like that....just saying my two sense
-
Actually the text is worded wrong, supposed to say the pike is 28", the guy is 5'1" and he has an arm length of 50"+ from shoulders to tips of fingers. Oh and it was really my neighbor and he caught it on north end of silver lake :P
-
My vote is photoshop.
1st the guys arms are bent & the pike is close to his body. Look at his left arm you can see his elbow is almost at a 90deg, other elbow appears bent the same resting on his leg. That would make the pike almost as big as he is.
2nd look at the pikes belly where theres a huge indent from the guys right hand, it seems to continue toward the tail more than it should as if the original hand holding the fish was either much bigger, had xtra finger around it, or the fish itself was enlarged.
3rd the pattern on the pike seems to be more clear or higher resolution than the guys face.

2 weeks ago and old friend of the family got 1 52" long,no pics were taken and the fish was eaten(smoked),the guy that caught it only fishes to catch dinner mostly he fishes for walleye and perch

I have fished Sacandaga for over 60 years and this would be the best fish I have seen in over 25 years. I have been working in the bait shop the last two days. Call came in about 11:30 Friday morning about this fish. I didn't take the call but know that NO name was given and the guy hung up. I was in the shop yesterday for 10 hours and spoke to NO one that saw the fish. Didn't even see a picture until I got home last night. Back ground does not look like the Sacandaga area and on Friday there was no more than 2/3 inches of snow on the lake. I am not saying it didn't happen, but I do know that if most anyone of us got one like this we would have been going around showing this fish to someone. The last real big fish I saw were 35 and 39 lbs and they were gotten in the early 80's. They are in there. Hope one of you guys get one. I would like to see one more....hunts2long

pic first came from facebook 3 days ago. group name The fishin hole. not from the dead sea in the end
-
My buddy sent me that same pic on 1/9/2013. He is from North Dakota. I can only imagine the stories on where/when/if that fish was caught. During deer season there is always a couple pics of monster bucks that has 1000 diferent stories on where it was shot.
-
I've received that pic in an email about 10 times... 1 time it was supposedly caught out of lake delta, another was Oneida lake, st Lawrence, and sacandaga.... Its a hoax

Looking at the background, that was the first place i thought of... North Dakota or Canada, awesome fish.
-
You mean that isn't Sand Island in the background!!!.....hunts2long
-
Kind of like that mountain lion the showed up on everybody's trail cameras.
-
Tell Dave hope he gets better soon & get out of bed already from Al & Lee, hehe.

-
Wow. Makes my 42 incher look small.
-
I bought some tip ups from a guy named don off Craigslist in Troy on the 11th, he showed me this same exact picture. I asked him where is was caught and he didnt tell me. All he said was that his cousins friend caught it.
-
I to have seen this fish that was mailed to my friends phone. The story we were told was that it was caught in Saratoga Lake it was 60 inches but didn't get a weight. A friend of his mailed it to him and he told me that he didn't know the guys name. I said to him "So you don't know the guy who caught the fish" he said "no" ??? ??? ??? ::) ::) ::)Boy O Boy
-
Could it even be that the fish was photo shopped in?
-
A buddy just showed me it on his phone. He got it on Jan.7 it came out of Delta that day. This fish made the rounds!!
-
That fish is what legends are made of!!!
-
I'm glad that it wasn't caught out of the sac means shes still in there waiting for me to drop my line off to her
-

That's why I was asking for more pics. Seems everyone's uncles, buddies and cousins caught it.

You mean like this pike that was supposedly caught out of Caroga lake that was emailed to me by at least 6 people.
Funny thing is there are no pike in the carogas. Turns out this fish was caught in sweden I believe.
-
Exactly like that. The one previous post mentioned the mountain lion on the trail camera. One picture and everyone in the U.S all of a sudden became related. It was everyone's Uncles's and cousins camera.
-
guys guys. Relax. I caught it.....
then I woke up.
-
Talked to a guy today while coming off of brodelbin and said it was his buddy and was caught off if scouts island, he showed us the text from his buddy was not forwarded. So hard to say
-

-
If it wasn't 50 in or caught at sacandaga people really need to get a life if this is your moment of glory that's sad.
-
Oh yeah it was me I caught it that was the only pic I got sent to my email before I dropped my phone down the hole prob. would have been okay but had to drill three more 10" holes to get her thru. Im with adkroy its a hoax pic is doctored. The whole story will be on animal planet next month on a show called "Finding Esox"
-
yes i too am getting quite a kick out of this....I don't always read entire threads....but when I do....I prefer several styles of humor
-
i heard it was a pickeral not a pike and its the new world record

This is exactly why I both love and hate the internet!!!!!! :%$#!: :%$#!: :%$#!: :%$#!: :%$#!:

I got the pic Monday from a guy who lives near Sac. the details that came with the pic are 53 inches and 38 pounds. I have a 42 inch 18 pounder on the wall and the fish in the photo looks twice that size... so, maybe. The guy who sent me the pic is not a BSer but these days there are so many hoaxes around on the net that I can't trust anything any more. I've fished in Manatoba where 50 plus +, 30 pound northerns are not uncommon. The indians there who net commercially tell me they have seen 50 pound northerns. I know NP can get that big but... I guess it is not beyond the realm of possability. I sure would like to see some kind of confirmation. A 38 pound northern? True or not it sure is fun to dream about.

In perspective that fish apppears to be about 6' (72") in the (photoshoped??) pic. Just guessing they knew that no one would believe that so they knocked it back to a more believable 53". I personally hope that it's real though....
-
Reguardless Its a hog !
-
No one has been able to confirm that it has come from the Resevoir yet from what I heard.
It was 33lbs caught by one of my friends hunting buddy.
-
if anyone caught this it would have been showed around and not all hearsay.cmon guys get real.haha
-
50# realy?? I have seen a 48" caught in Canada it only went 27 pounds and change, that one from Sweden or wherever it was caught in Europe is pushing 50# ....would take a near 30" or more girth to make that weight, fish in question is maybe low 20" at best
-
Thats why you should use a 10" auger
-

I dont think its photoshopped at all... Im trying to figure your equation out and what would make you pin the fish at 72"... There is nothing definitive in length to compare it to....
Its a pic of a big fish, and a guy crouched with his arms extended... You can plainly tell its him holding it.. It looks like a 50 ish inch 30lbish fish... Its a far cry from any record...
-
lou has that picture in the store got to be true now
-
nice looking fish :o
-
It seems like everyone knows who caught it lol. My buddy fished with the guy--- my buddies hunting buddy--/-- a guy I work withs friend----- I'm going to say. A guy I met at the drive thru's cousins friend hit it and it weight 34 1/2 pounds and he caught it jigging perch.
-
Only thing i can say is i know those quality of fish are in the dead sea....
-
Ok, I admit it, I caught it on Oneida Lake. I hooked it on a red and silver hali-jig using 2 lb test line on a walmart special pole. I pulled it up through a 4 inch hole that I drilled with my 4 inch hand auger.
-
I was at a job meeting in Albany this week one of the supers lives on the lake, they were showing the picture around ,they said it was real ,but who knows.I have a 42"20.5 pounder mounted, they said that was 52" and I thought they said 34 pounds,it surely look more then 10"s longer than the one I have .BB
-

Well I guess I would compare it to the one you are holding (similarly to the way the Pike is held in the Pic) crouched in your Post. Now I would say that that Pike is more than 40"+ (right??) and I would also say that the Pike in the Pic is at least 2' longer than yours. I'm only tyring to explain myself and I am not saying who is right. All your fish and the one in the Pic are nice fish!!!

I understand where you're coming from, its just really tuff to gauge a fish in a wide open lake photo.. If there was a jet sled or bait bucket even a rod or tip up near the guy you could get an idea...

I understand-we're cool. just wanted you to know where I was coming from. Now go and get one bigger than those beauties in your Avatars.

NIce picture man
-
This same picture was posted two weeks ago claiming it was caught in saratoga lake.. if anyone believes this came from sac. i have a bridge you might also want to buy on sacandaga.
-
I heard they chummed the hole with cat litter first then used a cherry fruit roll up for bait. :P :P
-
Well if so many people know someone who knows the guy in the pic why doesn't anyone know his name? Exactly. If he fished the Sac then someone would know or seen him. I fished near the island around the time the pic got posted and nobody was that close to the island. Sorry if I think it's funny that people are saying how true it is but yet nobody can get a date or where it was caught and who is the guy in the pic. I got the pic saying it came from cossunyna So I text my buddy back to have him check out this thread
-
Someone caught it some where maybe not there that day! Shopped or not there had to be a picture !no matter what it is a big pike for sure
-
Call me crazy but this looks like the same shoreline in the background.....

I fish the dead sea every year this was first year I had a pike on a tipup it was short lived cus I had no steel leader but the guy that I happen to meet and fish with for that weekend just so happens to have caught 2 50 plus inchers the last couple years and I pretty sure he don't tell no bs. We were just wondering why ther no pics at the local bait shops and such. Yes nice fish hands down
-
I don't know a single person that would not have a picture of the fish if they caught 50" fish........
Look at the pictures on this site of the 30 inchers
-
On of my dads friends went up there 2 or 3 weeks ago and caught a 30 pounder I don't know the length on it though
-
pictures

maybe 30lbs worth of 12oz at a time. don't believe it without picture's and a sworn affidavit from someone that witnessed it!!
-
I haven't heard or seen anything about any big pike...biggest I have seen is about 44 inches.....hunts2long
-
every year guys guestimate these weights and lengths.guestimate bein the key word.saw Gary`s in the paper comin in at 22 lbs or so and that was a bomb.lets see pics on a scale........never happens.prolly a nice one no doubt but 30 lbs is HUUUUUUGE and very uncommon.
-
I see 10 to 15 pound stripers routinely described as 20 to 25 pound fish ::)
-
There are about 5 people alive today that have caught multiple 45"+ fish consistently on the sac, and they don't talk to those that they don't trust REALLY well.
If someone caught one, that's great......but it's a small community up there and word passes around quickly and the locals hear about it fast. If I haven't heard of it, I find it hard to believe. This year I know of a few fish over 40" and there may be a few more I haven't heard of, but I find it pretty hard to believe there is a 50"+ fish that has been caught this season yet without any of the locals knowing. I do know of several guys that know that lake inside and out that haven't caught a 40"+ fish in over 10 years...........if you wanna catch one up there plan on a lifetime of fishing and you better know the right spots.
