Big Lake Alaska Burbot

Not huge, but a good reward for putting up with the cold.  24".  Gave the homemade sled it's first trip.  Pulled good.  Good day to see Denali (Mt. McKinley).

Poor mans lobster at it's best.  What did you have for ice out there? Still wanting to head that way for some pike fishing.

Went out again yesterday.   About 8-9 inches.  Lots of overflow but it's starting to freeze up.  Wouldn't drive out yet.  Took the snowmachine and did fine.  About 4 inches of snow on top.

Went for a drive to visit friends in Carmacks today.  That two hours North of Whitehorse, and all the lakes we saw are frozen, and all of them have burbot.  So...  ;)

Congrats on your first of the season!

Burbot sre great eating, they have that unique smell when you open them up. I heard  they are related to the Cod Fish!

Burbot are the only freshwater species in the cod family (Gadidae)
