marmooskas
« on: Dec 02, 2008, 11:02 AM »
Just got the card of a dozen glow size #16 in the mail today. Won them on e-bay. They are the tiniest jigs I have ever seen. They should be killer 4 them gills. Just wondering if anyone else uses this size and style, and what they think. THANKS

I have had good luck with them.  I would use 1 lb line when fishing the #16's.

These jigs are great and they catch fish. They suck to tie on though

I use Fas-snap to put all my ice-fishing lures and jigs on and off.
Comes in 3 sizes sm - med - lrg

I use Trilene Micro Ice.  If you use a spinning reel with heavier line in very deep water that little jig will have a hard time straightening out all the coils.  Some people even stretch their line out the night before a trip to try to get it as straight as possible.  If I'm fishing shallower I use a noodle rod with an ice reel and 2 lb test, since line coil isn't a problem with the ice reels.

use fly line tippet. 6 pound rio is like hair compared to 6 pound maxima perfection. You can get away with a 2 or 3 pound test where normal mono would be 1 pound test. it really makes a difference.

5 pound rio is .006 in diameter, the 2.5 pound is .004 and the 1.5 is .003. more strength and smaller.

Can you get the jig to sit horizontal with a "fas-snap", and aren't you defeating the purpose to having such a small jig, by adding more metal?  I have never used them, so I'm not trying to sound argumentative, just curious.  For me, I hate those real small marmooskas, because I lose way more fish due to the hook size... they just tear right through the lip, and when you don't lose the fish the marmooska is a pain to get out without bending the hook all to h**l.  When the bite gets light, and you need to get more natural, give me an ice fly with a temco hook or give me death  ;).  That's just me...  HT
I wish I was good at ice fishing!

I HAVE HEARD THAT THOSE ICE FLIES CAN BE DEADLY. A FEW OF MY BUDDIES USE THEM AND SWEAR BY THEM. THEY DONT EVEN USE BAIT JUST PLAIN HOOK.
