Looking for big sunfish
« on: Mar 18, 2019, 07:09 PM »
If anyone could direct me towards a pond or bay that’d be sweet. I live over in new haven, the bite around here has been really dead

Willing to drive 40 min

Sauced  :'(

Goose Bay, south of the bridge in Addison. Park at McCuens Slang access. Gills and seeds. Try the center of the bay maybe 300 yards off shore. 5-8 FOW. You'll find some.

You'll also pick up some largemouths. Gotta put em back but lots of fun on light tackle.

Think it is the Champlain record but the angler isn't interested in that type of notoriety. He is a legend and admired by all of my crowd. When at the top of the mountain no need to climb more.

current record for sunfish is 1lb. 4oz.  Bluegill is 1 lbs 15.7 oz id say he still has climbing to do lol unless he hasn’t submitted it yet to the records
i told myself id be back by 2 i guess i didnt factor in that the fish were biting

1.5 is bigger than 1 pound 4oz.
Thats impressive. I caught what I thought was a monster at night crappie fishing  last week and that was 15 oz on my scale.
Cant imagine what a 1.5 must look like.

He didn't care anything about the record issue. He was told it would have been a Lake Champlain record. I think those weights you quoted were state records. Had it been a new state record it would have been the same story. The 1.5 not sure if it is 1 pound 5 oz or 1.5 pounds which is different. Some people don't care about records and others do.

I had my picture taken with one that was 2.57. I didn't catch it but saw it at Rays and had my picture taken as a joke for a few of my fishing friends. Sent the pic with nothing else and waited for the texts to start. Was fun but I fessed up.

Wow, crazy VT fish, deep south 1-2 pounders are common and some lakes top out at closer to 4.
I'd like to see the big sunny, regardless of what 1.5 represents (1.5 # or 1 pound 5 oz) thats a nice
fish. Congrats to the "guy"

Yes it was a nice fish and came from south Champlain I believe. One of my fishing buds caught one 2.75 last summer open water on south Champlain.  Made 2 consecutive casts and netted a 2.50 and the 2.75. The big one was over 16" long and was a black. The 1.5 sunnie I didn't take a picture and it is long gone at this point. Wasn't that long but was probably 2" through the shoulders. Was a freak.

For those who like pictures. Normally I don't post them but had these 2 I just posted on my phone which makes it easier. Caught this gill open water under a bobber in the gut. Was 11 inches and 1.41. Probably my best but not sure since I have been fishing for them for so many years and most of the time don't have them weighed.

I have a hope that open water season doesn't come until at least tax day...LOL. Love my ice fishing especially for flat fish. There are a group of us that go out together and run it right until the planks aren't long enough to get on. Your humor did make me chuckle though. CI

The best flat fishing is right now until the end 1 day before when the ice will no longer support a person. Today was a good day and I was in plenty of company.
