Was wondering how you guys store your waxies. Ordered 500 and they came in those blue tubs. Was wanting to combine both tubs. Do you guys spread them out or keep them bunched up?

Best to keep them spread out and in a cool place in your basement if you have one.

I keep them in my basement and that seems to keep them alive quite well.

At an ice clinic last weekend they said to store then at 50 degrees. They suggested next to an outside wall but not in the refrigerator . Spikes are ok in the refigerator.

50-60 seems to keep mine alive the longest. to hot or to cold takes them out quick.

With wax worms,too hot and they get too happy and cocoon up. Too cold and they die. 50-60 degrees keeps them alive but kind of lethargic, that is just right.

sort through them every day and pick out the cacooned ones and the black ones

Has anyone tried storing them in an outside stairwell in a cooler? My options are limited, inside the basement is my coal stove, the refrigerator will end me up in BIG TROUBLE with my wife, which leaves my outside basement stairwell.

the waxies will die in the refrgerater spikes only in the fridge. Maybe try next to a outside wall window sill works good they just need cool not cold

My basement is pretty warm with the coal stove so by an outside window won't work.

Buy a dorm fridge and set it to the warmest temp, stick a thermometer in there and see what you get.

I keep them in the corner of my room on the floor, chilly outside corner wall. Works great and easy to remember to sort through. Might not work as well if you live with your significant other. Might have to find a new spot next winter as I will be married ;)
For on ice I put what I need in a insulated bait puck. If I get back and there is still some left I keep them in there till next time. I have been told not to transfer them back to the bulk container. They probably went through a significant temp change and will die sooner than the others, don't want to mix them in and forget and have them die. Sort through the bulk container every couple days.

Instead of a refrigerator, I bought a small wine cooler. Works great

Yup...in the basement, 45-50*. I also use spikes ( in the door...not as cold as other areas of fridge). One thing I have found with both, and I'm sure with other grubs as well, is if you're going bulk...take what you need to the lake and discard the ones you didn't use. Putting them back in the container with the fresh ones has a tendency to "spoil" the others quicker. Not sure why, but was told this a long time ago and it seems to work.

I always store them in the fridge, and they last way longer than my spikes do...so believe what you want. I do keep them inside a cardboard box, and then the container inside the box...so maybe the box is keeping them slightly warmer. I think this year I'm going to put some newspaper or foam peanuts in the box to add some extra insulation, and maybe keep them a few degrees warmer.

Keep mine on top of the fridge in my shed which stays between 50-60 and sort through them as stated in other posts.
