Decoy weight.

What are you guys that carve your own decoys using for weight? I'm carving my first one in thirty plus years. We always used old tire weights. Is there something that works better? Just getting antsy, picked up a new spear house this fall and want to try it out!

Come to find out not all wheel weights are lead. Sacrificed a few egg sinkers and I have enough weight, but not in the correct place. Oh well, I'll just have to drill a few more holes. On the plus side, while looking for some different lead, I found a box of my dads old decoys I didn't know I had.

any pics of the old decoys you can share? I've used split shot sinkers for weight in my decoys, clip some to some fishing line, hook it to the decoy and let it settle into a fish tank to see how it sinks or doesn't sink, add or remove what you need to get it to sink, and you'll know how much weight to put in.

The old decoys are just some he made after he sold all his old ones. Stuff he made to pass time after retirement.
