 well, I bought a spear, bought a deke, ( thanks to Jcrean), bought a hub, now i just need to get in the water, my chain saw bar, I doubt will reach through the ice we have here. I have a friend driving up to Tawas to see if he can borrow, a fish saw. the plan, chain saw as deep as we can, then hand saw the rest. My maiden trip is supposed to be this fri sat. we'll see. I am not going to go out and by a bigger chain saw!

IMHO better off getting an ice saw. I did the chainsaw for years, trust me the hand ice saw is the way to go. Late in the season thick ice makes it more of a challenge getting a nice hole.

My first trip will be this sat A:M. I will be with 2 guys with experience. If I find I do enjoy this, I will by an ice saw. I have watched for them on cl, for about a year, don't see them very much.

May be hard to find a used saw. I know I have never seen one on the list. I think one from Fish is like $125.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction for a QUALITY ice saw. The 455 Husq. Is doing the job now but getting close to end of bar. Hate the mess too.
