Hub Shanty Carry Bag
« on: Jan 10, 2020, 07:51 PM »
My carry bag for an Otter hub shanty got wind torn on the roof of my car. Does anyone have any suggestions for a more sturdy replacement?

If you plan on carrying it on your roof often, maybe a Thule luggage bag, or a Thule/Yakima hardbox.

Need something big enough and strong enough so...

???

Seriously though, roofbox is a good idea. I have crammed my Eskimo Fatfish in a Yakima skybox 12 before and it's tight but it fits. I prefer not to bring the bag with me on the ice so mine always stays in my garage.

I understand this completely, I have an Eskimo 3 and 3i, I find the fight to stow it in the bag at the end of the day more than I want. I will most times close it up and drag it back to my vehicle on the sled without putting it back in the bag.
May your tip-up spool while your flag raises with hopes of landing the big one.

See if you can find a military surplus store and old military tent bag. I know the bag my buddies dad had for the huge military tent he had you could pry fir to pop up in it and it was very durable
If you sit around all day and do nothing your a bum, but if you sit in a boat all day or in a shanty and do nothing they call you a fisherman

Replacement parts/bag are available..but I am not certain anything short of a hard box  will get the job done for what your looking to do.

Christmas tree bags are economical and come in approximately the right size for many hubs, but they probably won't survive life on your vehicle's rooftop:

I spent $20 on a aftermarket military duffelbag for my Quickfish 3. It goes in t he bag front or reversed.   It fits nicely EXCEPT is about 8 inches too short. Still, it works a lot better than the too-tight bag the shelter came with.

A hardtop carrier is worth considering.  My flip over takes up much of the back of my Explorer.  I bot a carrier and load that up w gear:  ion auger, heater, rod case, cooler...
