fish trap guide waterproofing
« on: Sep 26, 2008, 07:05 AM »
my fish trap is a few years old, last year i noticed that it would let water seep through when it was raining out. how do you guys waterproof them and is their a way to paint the inside black. the cover is still in good shape, no holes  or anything really dont want to spend 160 on new one if i can fix this one.
       thak you in advance, leon

In a well ventelated area hit it with some Camp Dry . You can get it at WalMart in the sporting goods or shoe department's .
A couple of cans takes care of mine every season .

Part of the trick with any canvas is to NOT touch it when it's wet any more than you have to .

I hit mine with camp dry every season, I'll unload a whole can on it with two coats on my FT Pro. Recoat as needed.  One thing I have noticed is it's not going to stay completely dry as your in it fishing, eventually it will still drip on you, fished a couple of times last season in a driving rain. Good for the first hour than drip drip drip... I also coat my bibs and jacket every year with camp dry as well.  Good stuff..

I use Thompson Water seal, I apply it with a garden sprayer. No BS
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an  well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, A fishing pole in one hand, beer in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming \"WOO HOO, what a ride!

thanks guys, what about painting it? would like it darker inside. I see the newer ones are black. do you guys put anything on the flaps around the bottom to keep them from lifting up when the wind blows? i use snow to pack around if their is any, but i also movemore now that i have a vex.
