I run my fish finder on the Milwaukee M18.
  - Lighter and more compact than the Dakota.
  - Designed for cold weather use.
  - M18 has 12 Amp hours instead of 10 amp hours on Dakota.

Bottom Line is that 18 volts at 12 amp hours has nearly DOUBLE the watts/power (94% more) of the Dakota
Milwaukee M18 = 216 watt hours
Dakota = 120 watt hours
.

And, it will also run my Milwaukee drill/auger so I have a redundant battery without actually carrying a spare.

excuse my ignorance, but can you explain how you are attaching the 18v Milwaukee battery to a 12v flasher system?

I am running mine directly to a Garmin Livescope.

However, you could easily run any flasher (or the Garmin Livescope) if you put a 12 volt regulator between the flasher and the battery.

Here is one that would work.

It is sold on Amazon:

Why would anyone bother messing with all that if the batteries can run a sonar all day.

Depends on which sonar and at which screen brightness settings. Livescope is a bit more power hungry than some flashers. But, as pointed out above, there are options.

Livescope power requirement is 10 - 32v DC. Not uncommon for locators to have usable voltage range.
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!
