Just wondering what people do to mark their tip up lines with for depth. Are usually tie a knot but I have heard of some people using buttons.  The button seem like a great idea.

Buttons
when chuck norris played golf for money, chuck marked down a hole in zero every time, the golf pro said, "chuck: you can't score zero on a hole." Chuck norris turned towards the man and said, "I'm chuck norris, the man proceeded to pour gas over his body and set himself on fire because that would be less painful than getting roundhouse kicked by chuck norris....chuck norris roundhouse kicked him in the face anyways

Very small red and white plastic bobber. There about 1/2 " diameter with a snap on both ends. I double clip them. They hold the line well and seldom need reset.

Howdy!  I am a dedicated trout fanatic!  For 50+ years I like many others used buttons to mark re-settin depth. For the last several years I have been payin more attention to what the trout were tryin to tell me. I have concluded that though convienient the risk of the button causin drag and/or catchin other lines or weeds and alertin the trout to drop and run. 99% of the time I always set less than 5 feet below bottom of hole, so I just tie my leaders accordingly  at home, then bait and set depth at the small swivel between leader and main line!  IF for some reason (browns mostly) I want to set near bottom I just slip not a paper book match to mark depth.  In very short order after settin the match becomes waterlogged and limp so as not to catch on stuff! Regards,  O.P.

Far less likely to get caught, on weeds or the ice edge when you retrieve. (than a button)

A 4” piece of yarn instead of a paper match. Pulls out easily at the end of the day.

I use a piece of wooden match stick with a slip knot. Small piece, one match stick goes a long ways.

Also have a few with buttons on them.
