The fat lady has begun warming up this week...
« on: Feb 19, 2018, 08:12 AM »
I checked on a couple of ponds this weekend.

Heard Pond in Wayland is only reachable with a LONG plank.
Unfortunately the recent rains and warm temps have eroded the shoreline pretty badly.
The Sudbury River, which feed the pond, is pretty flooded and as a result the pond is high.
That means the shore ice is rotted out for a good 5-8' before you might find good ice.
Many of the waters in and around the 128 belt will probably have similar results, but more remote waters might be doable.

Of course that doesn't take into consideration this weeks weather.....

It's not over everywhere, but some areas will experience serious shore erosion this week.
I plan on trying some night fishing either on Tuesday or Wednesday night.
Threw together a set of 10 LED mini flashlights in a water tight bag that I can submerge in the water.

The pond I plan on fishing has plenty of sunfish, yellow and white perch as well as bass pickerel and trout, but I'm targeting the panfish.
