PB Laker
« on: Feb 18, 2018, 08:31 AM »
I didn’t catch it in NH but figured I’d share it with all of you. Yesterday was my birthday and I decided to stay at an AirBnB and do a day of ice fishing. You’re allowed 15 lines a person but with 20 mph winds and yellow perch it didn’t seem worth it to me. As they went off I pulled them and was just jigging yellows in the hut. I walked out a little over a mile and at this point had the hub all anchored down and didn’t feel like relocating. I cut my loses with the lakers and just kept jigging yellows with my 30” ultra light rod with 8 lb Fleuro. Suddenly a mark comes racing from bottom and I figured “oh this perch wants it” i set the hook and instantly I just think “oh boy” cuz she wasn’t moving!! I figured it was a pike and got pissed because 8lb fleoro wasn’t gonna get the job done. No matter how I set my drag on my little fly reel I couldn’t reel in, it kept slipping. So I’d have to pump up holding the spool and then reel down, after about a 10 min fight I pulled up my PB Laker, definitely a birthday I’ll remeber.

Nice! They have quite the fishery up there. Way to make it work on the panfish set up, it must have been a rush when you got it to the hole

Nice fish & happy belated birthday! 15 lines pp??? Wow. Makes these two line lakes in NH seem like a waste of time.

You had to weed through them but there were some decent ones there. I didn’t catch and monsters though. I’m sure if I bounced around a bit more or stayed all day I would have caught bigger ones. I really only jigged from about 9-2

Congrats! I've never thought of doing air BNB for an overnight fishing trip. last time I tried in winter it seemed the owners primarily rent in the summer and don't check/adjust their calendars for winter.

I have no idea if the rates were any better or not but let them know before booking i'd be utilizing their property to access the lake and they were fine with it. figured it was more convenient than a hotel and i'd be right on the water and it was a bit cheaper so no brainer.

Definitely over 30" and i'm thinking around 10lb. the head on this guy was massive, and i've caught a 8 before and this guy is just as fat and a lot longer. I think the head on this one is so big it kinda takes away from how girthy this fish actually was. I was so in the moment that I didn't measure it because I knew I didn't have a tap measure and really wanted to get a good healthy release on it. reflecting back all I had to use was my 30 inch rod and measured scoop. Anyways it was well over my 30 inch rod so who knows.
