Humminbird Ice35 battery question
« on: Jan 12, 2018, 08:38 AM »
Hey everyone
Trying to figure out the battery charging schedule for a new Ice35 I picked up a few weeks ago. The battery was showing full charge when I put the unit together,  but the manual mentioned that it should be charged first before using. When I did this the charger was showing full charge after 5 minutes or so. I have used the flasher for about 10 hours so for and it is still showing full charge.
Do these 12 volts battery hold a charge that long?  Would there be any harm done to the battery if I just charged it even though it is showing full, or should I wait until it is completely drained before charging?
The device was working fine when I had it out the few times, but I do not want to get stuck out on the lake and have the battery suddenly die..

It should be charged after each use. It is a lead acid battery like in your car and doesn't need to be depleted before charging.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

if you plugged the battery in cold you may get a false full charge. no after 10 hours it should need at least some charge web says it draws .2 a/hour so you should have brought it down to 70% charge ish after 10 hours.

Rule of thumb, it will take 50% of the time the battery was used to charge it.

Yes they do last that long. I can run mine for about 30 hours before its in the lower end on the voltage scale. But always charge after every use. After fishing for 4-5 hours it takes about 30 minutes to recharge using my battery tender jr.

This is good to know thanks everyone for the info
Also is it a good idea to unplug / disconnect the battery cable after each trip?  I normally just leave it plugged in, but wondering if it is better to unplug it after each use.
Thanks

You don't need to unhook the battery from the flasher unless storing over the off-season. I don't think it draws anything but I will check.

Perfect. That's good to know. Won't bother disconnecting the power cable until the season is over then. Just picked up this flasher a few weeks ago and still trying to figure it out. So far  I have been pleased with its performance on the ice.
Thanks
